"I went onto my mobile phone and checked for quickGPS. Could not find it. Still cannot get proper location for myself. No closer than 2 blocks from where I actually am. Bothers me a great deal as I have a friend with an iphone. He stands right next to me, gps pinpoints location right down to whether or not he is on the left or right side of the street. I cannot do that, and am disappointed due to the fact my phone was based on using Google apps."

QuickGPS is a program written for Windows Mobile applications. Since your device is Android based, I wonder if there is equivalent software for Android. The real issue here though is not the speed of obtaining a satellite lock (which is what QuickGPS helps with) but rather the accuracy of the position fix you get. If you have an error of 2 blocks, either you aren't connecting to enough satellites to get an accurate fix (3 satellites is minimal - 4 or more is better) - or somehow, your GPS software isn't processing the entire ephemeris package from each satellite. My Tilt (WM6.1) will clearly show when I move from one room in my house to another. I wonder if there is a bug in the GPS software on your device.

When you connect to Google Maps are you connecting to the internet first (either by 3G or WiFi)? If so, GM should show a map and in the upper right corner of the screen it should show a block that says "GPS active (7)" the "7" could be any number that shows how many satellites are being tracked. Sitting in my office, my GPS is tracking between 7 and 9 satellites. If it doesn't show "GPS active" you don't have a lock.

On the HTC Dream (which I bought in Canada a few days ago), you can insert a lower case "p" for pause or "w" for wait into a dialing string by using the dialer with the keyboard. Then you can create a new contact. If you use the telephone-style dialer, you can't insert the letters. If you try to create or edit a new contact directly, you can only insert capital P or W, which don't work. In my view HTC should update the Dialer and Contacts apps to allow the other two methods.
