Why My HTC Touch Turned Off Frequently?
Jan 7 2008, 3:15 AM EST | Post edited: Jan 7 2008, 3:15 AM EST
Hi, hope you guys can help.

I notice my HTC Touch turned off (not dimmed) by itself every like several minutes. When I press the "Power" button on top, it would act like it is restarting. I mean I see the Windows Moblie bootup screen and so on.

So it is not like the backlight is off. I have uncheck the backlight setting and the power-off setting already, and the battery is about 50% remaining the last time I check.

So anyone has similar issue or have a solution?

Thanks.

Does your battery fit securely in the device? It sounds like it may not be and losing connection with the device...

My HTC Touch has finally crashed or so i think. all through saturday I kept doing soft resets because the phone was either freezing or switching itself off. It does not charge anymore and now it can not power on, either because the battery is flat or the phone is dead. I feel so bad because my husband got it for me as a birthday gift. 2  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

You do have a warranty on the device so dont fret.
Be sure that you are only using the Charger/Battery/USB cable that came with the debice (others can damage the unit and that is not covered under the warranty)
If there is not physical/liquide damage and if a Hard Reset (Press and hold the Sned Cal and End Cal buttons while doing a soft Reset) dont bring it back to life, Go for that Warranty Exchange.

I am having the same issue with my HTC Touch. It appears to happen when I press the Red End Call Key, but I can not be 100% certain as I haven`t managed to replicate the problem in a sterile environment. Also, when it switches off, I struggle to get the phone started again.

I look forward to a response to get this fixed, otherwise I will be very dissappointed with what I thought was a fantastic phone.

Couple of points about the phone:

a) I have noticed it slowing down recently, no doubt something to do with Windows Mobile, but if anyone has an answer on how to resolve this, I would appreciate it.

b) I once installed Skype on the phone, but removed it as it created a space issue, when I try and reinstall on the memory card, it won`t let me. Once again, any solution greatly appreciated.

c) Anyone discovered how to get the phone to come over on loudspeaker?

Does ordering up a new (i.e. replacement) battery module and testing that one out make any difference? 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I also have the same problem with my HTC Touch Diamond. It is really annoying. It happens at least 3-4 times a day. On some occasions, it turned off but the base of the phone felt warm, and when it's reset, the battery gone almost flat...I figured the chip must still have been active. I wonder if it's because of the ROM? Do you find this valuable?

I'm having the same problem with my touch. It turns itself off at random and the only way to restart the phone is to take the battery out and put it back in. I keep taking my phone back to my phone company and they keep replacing it. I am now on my 4th phone because of problems. If anyone has any solutions please let me know! Thanks! Same thing here. MY Touch Diamond (new from Telus in Canada) this tuesday randomly shuts off, then I cannot power it on unless I do a soft reset or remove the battery. I really want to like this phone but if I need to reset/reboot it 6 times a day.... I don't mean to jack this thread but I also have a lot of lockups requiring a reset. Both me and my friend got our Telus Touch Diamonds the same day. They noth freeze, drop calls, and power off without being able to power on until the battery is removed.
The phone wants to send error report after error report to microsoft.
These phones nees a serious ROM update.

You might try doing a hard reset. Sometimes if there is a corrupted application it will drive the phone crazy and it will reset frequently. If you do a hard reset, it might either fix the corrupt app or get rid of it (if it is something you added)
Hope it helps
