How to download and install your new M3100 ROM
The ROM posted on this website is not a ‘patch’ – rather this is a total ROM replacement. Please ensure that any data you currently have on your M3100 is backed up.
Before you continue with the ROM installation, please check that:
- Your SPV M3100's battery is fully charged.
- Your PC is running Windows® 98, 2000 or XP.
- You have backed-up all of your personal data (contacts, appointments, tasks, images and other files) using ActiveSync (4.1) or later. While performing the ROM installation, all of your data and settings will be erased from your SPV M3100. After you've performed the installation, restore your personal data and settings to your updated SPV M3100.
- You have installed Microsoft Active Sync 4.1. This should replace any previous versions of Active Sync you may be using on your laptop/desktop. You can download 4.1 from the Microsoft Mobile website if you don’t already have it.
- Connect your SPV M3100 to the PC via the USB cradle. Establish an Active Sync 4.1 (or later) connection. Your M3100 must be switched on to allow the connection. Whilst performing the update, don't disconnect your SPV M3100 from your PC and don't touch any of the buttons on your SPV M3100. You will also be unable to launch any applications on your PC whilst the update is in progress. However, it is usually possibly to continue using applications you already have open before starting the update.
- Click on the Download ROM update link below and save this file to disk by left clicking on the link and selecting "save target as" from the menu.
- Once downloaded, double-click the file.
- Follow all instructions in the installation wizard that will appear on screen.
- When the Wizard starts, it will automatically close the original ActiveSync session, but will establish its own USB connection with your PC. The update will take approximately 25 mins. Please give it time to complete.
- When the update has completed you will be instructed to disconnect the M3100 from the PC
- You should then follow the instructions on the wizard and the M3100 screen.
Once the device restarts, the new ROM will load all of the Orange unique settings. Once this has completed, you can reconnect to the PC to recreate an ActiveSync 4.1 (or later) partnership and reload all of your personal settings. - If you disconnect part way through you may have to carry out a full reset to the SPV M3100 to reload the original ROM in order to re-establish an ActiveSync partnership.

I hear this update removes Bluetooth DUN and replaces it with PAN? Apparently this breaks the ability to use it as a modem with Mac OSX..?

Since doing the update I have noticed that the backlight often comes on by itself. It seems to do this in certain areas so my guess is that it happens when changing between different types of transmitter? eg between one that supports GPRS and one that supports HSDPA.
Orange have replaced the handset with another one (with AKU3 on it) and this is behaving in the same way. Does anyone know if there is any way I can go back to ye olde version? |
