I just had the same issue today with my 8925 tilt gone dead - Some are calling it the "red light of death"
Went to the att store only after 34 days from purchase and was told, "they won't exchange, I have to wait to get someone elses refurb. I just didn't want to stop there so I kept searching and found a solution.
Remove and replace the battery many times about 20 and then turn on the power button and it worked. http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&thread.id=73073

Now I wonder what I'm going to do with the unit they send to me in a couple of days. It seems hard to determin if it's a hardware or a software issue when you can get it to restart like this.

Going to post my solution to this because I've been here twice now. Twice now my tilt has stopped recognizing when i open the keypad, and the power button does not respond. Both times I tried pulling the battery out, and every other posed solution, and nothing ever worked. However I did find that for some reason, both times when I rebooted it while it was plugged into usb (other end in my computer), the problem went away. I don't know how this fixes it, but it does for me!

my tilt also freezes in "sleep" . . and just won't come back to life. i thought it was my outlet but its not. this is such a pain in the ass . . . when i buy something, i shouldn't have to spend hours upon hours trying to salvage any function. i can't trust the alarm on this phone, who knows if it will even turn on in the morning. i can't even trust that i am getting my calls - i have had this phone for the last 2 weeks - ON my body, and i have actually only recieved one phone call. i have missed the rest, despite having my phone on vibrate+ring. as someone mentioned before - this is absolutely unacceptable in medicine!!!

fuck this piece of shit phone

Add me to the list! I got my AT&T Tilt just a bit less than a month ago and everything was fine until yesterday my phone would not wake up from "sleep". The screen is off but it cannot be woken up even with the push of the On/Off button. The only way was to remove and replace the battery. Today, it just happened again. So does anyone know if that HTC Kaiser "tweak" which was mentioned earlier in the thread actually works? I don't feel like I can trust this Tilt anymore. Do you find this valuable?

I have had the same problem at a frequency about once per day (i.e. a very significant frequency). The tilt goes to sleep and there's no way to get it to come back on, except to remove and replace the battery. This is typical of Microsoft's production philosophy--go ahead and release software long before it is debugged. It annoys the users but costs them less in the end. I don't know why I thought this phone would be any different. I'm going to switch the the less powerful but more robust iPhone. Do you find this valuable?

same issues for me. sleeps and remains in its sleep. the little power and signal lights keep tweaking, which show that the phone is still on. When I put the charger on it in this condition, the charging light does not show. its not even detected by the computer, if tried to active sync it. Only solution is to remove and replace battery. but how many times....piece of junk.
if any of you can figure something out, I read some info and want to share here. This happens because the phone has some crappy application in today menu or storage card or somewhere, which it cannot reload on being waken up, and crashes. Maybe some one can figure something out from this

Folks, I just found a solution that worked for me. Remove the battery, and sim card, and leave them both out for around 24 hours. Then assemble them both back and turn on the phone. I did this and it has always woken up from sleep since then. All the best Do you find this valuable?

Would not wake up - was not plugged in - I have password protection on -
The on and off button was not responsive - this phone is only 15 day old -
I got it awake just by removing the sim card, which I was going to put in another phone ( card would not work in the other phone ( note to self - get a cheap phone that will take that card for backup) so I put it back in and
woke it up.

Spoke to Tech support - my phone does not have the latest 6.1 Microsoft OS - and my phone is 2 weeks old - have to back up my data and try it.

confirmed... tried pulling the battery out 2 times and 5 soft resets and same problem would come back (power button wouldn't respond, and device wouldn't sleep). took the battery out, plugged into computer USB, booted, worked first time. maybe it has something to do with the ActiveSync program on the phone locking up the system.

Thanks! Your solution worked! And only had to remove and replace the battery 10 times. My SIM card wasn't in my phone and don't know if it makes a difference. Hopefully this problem won't happen again. Do you find this valuable?
