"Wait, so you got the HTC touch to see wifi connections?... What did you do????"
ok. so i realise HTC Touch ships w/o wifi in some geographies. Asia seems to ship with wifi.
For those who have it and can't register on wifi networks, here's my update.
I FINALLY managed to get the Touch to register on a wifi.
One of you suggested that it had to do with entering the wrong network settings (like network key). But that wasn't it.
I think its something to do with the WiFi module onboard the touch. It makes it extremely difficult to latch on to a WiFi network for the first time. But once it registers the first time, in future whenever the same network is available it catches on in 2 secs.
What did I do? Black magic. trouble is i don't know what made the trick. but i think its one of these:
while reconfiguring my linksys wifi router, I
enabled MAC filtering (add the device MAC to the list)
and if your router has something like a detect mode, where it starts listening for connection requests try that too.
(skip the crappy router config s/w (esp if you're on Linksys) and instead hit the router config home directly http://192.168.2.1 or something like that depending on the way your ISP / Cable modem, etc are configured).
