HTC 621 from what I have found has a pretty Fragile LCD Screen.
Oct 3 2007, 9:37 AM EDT This seems to be the only HTC phone that can have it's LCD screen break with little or no pressure while in it's pretective case. Just a warning as I didn't know this. If you own the phone screen cracks/breaks are not covered by HTC corporate in the North American region and they do not deal with Customers with any warranty issues. I don't have a problem with that but the Carriers that sell the phone don't seem to want to cover it under warranty as a manufacture defect either. There are some options that I've found if you should come into this problem. Option 1. Call HTC about non warranty work. They have an 800 number in North America. They will diagnose the phone for 28.00 once shipped to them and replace the LCD at around 123.00 to 180.00 and waive the traige fee if it is just a broken LCD> Option 2. Most Cell Carriers will sell a phone insurance policy that you can use 1 to 2 times a year but there is at least a 75.00 to 150.00 out of pocket expense and they will ship you a new or refurbished phone. Option 3. which seems to be the cheapest and best bet if you are squimish about taking your phone a part is buying the parts online. With the right tools and LCD screen which you can find at www.pdaparts.com or on e-bay you can replace the LCD screen for less than 60.00 with parts shipped. Note that this will void any warranty that your phone has but if it's broken anyway and not covered what do you have to loose. That parts store even has an online video to help with the removal of the old screen. I tried it and was pretty successful. It is tricky and great caution should be used as these are very delicate phones on the inside. For any HTC Engineers or corporate Folks. Please make a better design as the model LCD you have chosen has a tendancy to break as it's has a very weak metal support underneath. A reverse flex is worse than a direct hit to the screen. 8 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

What a Piece of Garbage
Jul 22 2008, 11:46 AM EDT I purchased a new Dash with T-mobile in the beginning of May... Before I even had a chance to pay for it, the screen was broken. WTF... It was only in my pocket!.. I went to T-mobile to return my phone and cancel my new 2-year contract, when their clerks just gave me a big round-about saying that all they could do was replace the phone for some rediculous price. I then decided to buy and replace the screen myself... I did so with a replacement screen, and within 2 more months the screen broke again (this time in its case while clipped on my belt!!!)... WHO MAKES AN LCD DEVICE WITH A PLASTIC P.O.S. FRAME INSIDE!?!??... HTC does... that's who... And what do they do when you tell them that you want retribution? Here is what I wrote HTC Customer Service: Dear High Tech Computers Inc., Within the past two months I ordered and have been using your model the "HTC S620" or "Excalibur" or "Dash"... I used the phone for less than two months, and during the day today when I took the phone out of my pocket, I noticed that the LCD screen was cracked and damaged to the point where the phone is unusable. I am extremely disappointed in my purchase with your product due to its poor design and failure to withstand the light duty of an everyday pocket. I know that this is not the first incident which has occurred with this particular model since there are a plethora of other consumers complaining about this same issue. I understand that the product is covered under a 1-year warranty so that I can get it fixed... But this issue has made me so irate that I never want to have to touch that device EVER again. Jul 22 2008, 11:53 AM EDT From the bottom of my heart I would truly appreciate it as one of your loyal paying customers if you offered me some sort of retribution, such as a free phone of my choice, or company-credit towards another one of your phones. I am an honest, hard-working tax-paying person who tries to buy products from honest hard-working people. Prove to me that you mean well to your customers. Please be fair and just by helping one of your valued customers strengthen their faith within your company. I would love to continue using your products... please give me a valid reason to. Peter Chow
Jul 22 2008, 12:01 PM EDT And since your customer service is worth nothing, I will be forced to find Peter Chow's Home Address and write him a letter about my situation personally, because obviously your policies and procedures won't allow you to give your customers any sort of legitimate help... If someone wants to beat me to the mailbox with some sufficient customer service my email address is peacenotgreed@gmail.com. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
