Upgrading the Rogers S621 to Windows Mobile 6.0
Jun 16 2007, 3:41 AM EDT
I know that the T-Mobile dash has a free update to Windows Mobile 6.0. I know that the Rogers S621is pretty much the same phone. Can I use the T-mobile free update? Does anyone know when the update comes out on on the Microsoft website?

- dont know to much about this.. but general understanding from several sites is: 1. basically the same 2. s621 Manfactured in Taiwan s620 manufactured in china 3. s620 may have LCD scrren alignment issues or needs to be fixed on certain models. (specific serial # ranges) - how to get new software (need to unlock and find a new cooked rom with WM6) specific to that device Use: To Post your question they see, to know more..: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=309&order=desc - also try http://www.howardforums.com --> goto HTC etc etc http://ppcwarez.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=24006&highlight=htc+s620+rom Answer: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=310393 .... somebody have the update to WM6 of the HTC 621??? The rom of Dash doesn´t work in my HTC 621, the DASH es htc 620 lcel is not going to release WM6 on the HTC S621, I have a HTC S621 from telcel runing WM6. The only way to flash the ROM is to Cid unlock your excalibur paying, I used http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ and it worked perfect. After unlocking your excalibur you can flash the Tmobile WM6 rom or wait until HTC releases their unbranded ROM update this month. 1. The original WM5 ROM for the s620 is available. It's out there online if you do a little searching. It used to be hosted here. I ran it on my Dash for months before going to WM6. 2. HTC is going to be releasing the WM6 update soon. This will be a MUCH better firmware than T-Mobile's. Also, if you wait for it, you won't have to worry about unlocking or anything.-Mc RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.4_4.1.13.28_02.63. 9 0_Ship.exe http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1147792&page=4 <Sorry still ooking for app for myself too> 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Thanks, I think I will wait for the HTC update. You seem like youhave done your homework. I have another issue that came about last night. I installed ActiveSync on my home computer (I was having connection issues with my router) I originally installed my HTC S621 on my laptop when I first got it. As wireless connection kept kicking out my HTC once I updade my laptop to XP sp2, I decided to install it on my home PC. This didnt help me get into my network, but it also now has prevented my S621 from connecting back to my laptop. I unintalled ActiveSync on my Laptop and reinstalled it, and it works ok except now I can't get into Windows media player?

I just installed the T-Mobile upgrade on my Rogers phone. It's awesome. Faster than WM5. The Voice Commands are cool. The only issue I had was getting rid of all the T Mobile logos. First off though is you have to unlock your phone...

I have been searching for someone that has actually gone through with this. I also have the S621 from Rogers. I have tried to download the software from T-Mobile but it requires a phone number. Are you able to send me the software via e-mail. Feel free to send it to sthistle@rogers.com. How did you go about getting the phone unlocked and getting rid of all the T-mobile stuff.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!! Steve 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have alwasy been tempted to unlock my stuff i.e. psp, xbox, other phones. Some friends of mine have done this as they can't wait for some things to happen. The big was the PSP it took a few months before there was an update to allow it access the internet, a friend modivied his PSP to allow it happen and was unable to use the upgrade once Sony made it available. I also noticed that the microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/default.mspx has a link introducing WM6 so it will just be a matter of time.

I know that my HTC S621 is unlocked, and I know how to update it from the T-Mobile website. Before I update it there I was wondering if Microsoft would be placing the update on there website. Would Rogers post it? I mean is this just a marketing thing for T-Mobile, or will there be a cost for me to update it the "proper" way from microsoft? (ps I hate marketers, they are the downfall of todays society) ;)

I have a rogers S621, the wifi works fine if you set it up right. First thing you need to do is make sure wifi is on (on your phone) Press the silver button on the top left the phone (the on off button) this will take you to "quick list" once there go to "Comm Manager" you will see "settings" down at the bottom right of the screen. Select that then go to Wi-Fi. You should see you available Wi-Fi sights. Press "menu" down at the bottom and go to 4 "turn on Wi-Fi" (you will then see any Wi-Fi signals that are not saved) You will need to go to Wi-Fi Settings and the go through all the steps. To get Wi-Fi you need to know the passwords to encypted sights. ie your home internet. Just like a psp or wireless laptop. Make sure to turn off WI-Fi when you are done because it does a lot of the memory of your Phone. A little tip it took me a while to figure out was press start on your home screen, go to Task Manager and open it. On there you will see all open programs running. You can turn them all of to make your phone run faster, and more stable.
Good luck I love mine. Do you find this valuable? |

Addition to my last comment. If you are using home wireless. Remember that some of them have to be "opened" to allow new things ie laptops, smartphones, psp's" so make sure you have opened up your wireless signal at home on top of following all the steps on you phone. It sounds alot more complicated than it is. But a few hours of frustration goes along way when you get everything working. Most public wifi spots are very cool. Tip Go get Skype Mobile. It only works when you are using the earpeace, but you can then call anywhere for like $30.00 bucks a year. Good luck.
