GPS chip?
May 28 2007, 4:52 PM EDT
I've heard a rumour that this phone contains a GPS chip, but it doesn't seem accessible by any GPS-enabled software. Anyone know if this is true?

Also, any updates or idea if WM6 will be provided for the phone?

I'm pretty happy with mine so far, but I do miss the VGA screen from my Dell Axim X50v. This phone is much faster and more responsive than the Dell, though it had a faster processor, under WM5.

Besides phone features, I use the camera quite a bit, also read books with MobiPocket Reader, and listen to Audiobooks with Audible.com's AudiblePlayer. I have SPB Phone Suite and Mobile Shell installed, along with PocketInformant as a PIM replacement.

A hack is possible, but it would void your warranty, and risk breaking your device. Also, SPRINT along with HTC is developing a ROM update for the MOGUL (which is the same device as P4000) that will add REV-a capability and UNLOCK the built-in GPS to work with user-installed applications (link : http://wmexperts.com/articles/gps_on_the_mogul_coming_confir.html) . Let's just hope TELUS will go this way too... I haven't had a chance yet to call either HTC or TELUS to check this out... If anyone knows, please post!! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have had the Sprint Mogul Telus P4000 for 3 days now. The first thing I did was up grade the ROM to the latest. It does enable the GPS chip and it works fine. Do you find this valuable?

I think that update is for Sprint. Would this update screw up the Telus phones? Do you find this valuable?

not if you do it right, i just did it to mine, got the sprint software and did the hard reset to bootloader mode before doing the screen alignment, if you do that sprints settings iinstall and delete your old ones (you can write them down dial ##778 and click view and record all the info), but anyway i then installed the Telus modified version by dcd (i tried keys ROM from xda-developers forums.. but didnt fly) and it booted up ickity split no shit, with WM 6.1 (threaded texts, bit snappier, task manager), and GPS chip works awesome. Installed GPS speed sentry and it tells me when Im speeding better than my own speedometer 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Tried the Sprint software from HTC Support and would not install - invalid vendor id - any thoughts?

wow .. that sounds involved. where is the dcd version? So the Sprint software just does the firmware upgrade and then you install Telus? What is bootloader mode?

As you can see I need a descriptive list for this. Any chance you'd write it all for us?

Check out this link: http://taiu.wordpress.com/2008/02/06/updating-my-telus-p4000/ It's a nice step-by-step and I've performed this on a few Telus P4000 (2 were WM5 and 1 was WM6) devices in the past week and the GPS works perfectly on all of them - I've got TomTom installed as well as Google maps.

I have a T Mobile Dash and I want a navigational system on it, does anyone know any any third party vendors that may sell a GPS antenna or chip for this phone? Do you find this valuable?
