Problem with Cingular Video / Realplayer
May 27 2007, 1:16 PM EDT
I am having a problem viewing Cingular Videos. When I press 'play' it jumps to Real Player but then says 'Failed to Connect'. Anyone have any Idea what might be causing this? I have no problem connecting to the internet and have the right media plans etc.. Do you find this valuable?

you have to call AT&T and they will fix that for you, i had that problem and they had to place me on a new plan. i already had the unlimited but the real player site is looking for their new unlimited plan. If it doesn't see it it doesn't allow you to connect. There are no extra fees, they just have to change the name. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have the same problem. It was working and all of a sudden it stopped working about a week ago. What is the correct name for the plan? Do you find this valuable?

well my husband figured out what happened. how it connects to get data got changed and unfortunately once it errors it closes realplayer after you click ok, so you can't change it via the Cingular Video area. and RealPlayer isn't listed as a regular app either... so you have to search it out.

click start
click programs
click tools
click file exploer
scroll, scroll, scroll down to to the "R"s
click realplayer
click menu --> options
in the drop down window select "The Internet"
click done

click the Xs and "oks" to get out and enjoy your CV again

I don't have the HTC phone, but had the same error message. What's odd is that it used to work just fine. Anyway, the 2nd person I contacted at ATT resolved the issue by removing the feature from my plan and then adding it back in. Once I powered down/up the phone after that, it started working. I had read on another site that it may have something to do with the feature being coded wrong. When I originally added the MediaMax 200 it was a promotion that made it free for a couple months. Might have something to do with that. Please note: this first call to ATT about this got it "excalated" and they said I should hear from someone withing 3 buisness days. Once I read about the possible promo code issue and called back, the first lever CS was able to correct it. Good luck. Do you find this valuable?

This was very helpful, but my situation was slightly different. I found the realplayer program in my windows folder on my phone, and I had to change the selection to "MEdiaNet" instead of "the Internet". Thank YOU!!! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Had the same problem with the Tilt, and AT&T told me that my HTC phone simply could not play some formats, and I was out of luck. I then found this thread, went to the My Device\Windows\realplayer file and selected Menu, Options, just as you guys have said, and changed it from "internet" to "media net", and now it works like a charm.

thanks.

New twist. Mine stop working after I added the 6 tab home screen. I do not want to reset my Tilt and lose this feature or other setting. Neither Internet nor Media Net work. I get a message that the Cingular Video is temporaily experiencing technical difficulties. AT&T could not resolve and suggested a reset. Any other ideas? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Just resolved the CV "technical difficulties" issue with ATT. They recently eliminated the need for the user name and password that your phone uses to access the internet. Give them a call and they will walk you through it. You will have to update your connections settings. 2  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I have the same problem.
I followed your "to-do list". I am still getting this message - Media file type not supported. Please help!

"Media file type not supported" & "Failed to connect" are two different errors. Failed to connect was solved on my Tilt by changing the RealPlayer to read from MediaNet not Internet. You Tube file type required a different video player altogether. I installed HTC Streaming Media.
