How do I turn my Startup/Shutdown music off???
May 21 2007, 3:09 PM EDT I get up early in the morning and when I power up my phone that music blares and wakes up my wife. About 6 months ago I was playing around with some .xml files in my phone (like home.xml) and stumbled across a parameter that allowed me to shut off that music at code level. Life was good until I installed the updated ROM firmware from HTC's website last week. Now the music is back and I don't remember what/where that .xml file was. Can anybody help me? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: How do I turn my Startup/Shutdown music off???
Jun 25 2007, 6:08 PM EDT Ok, figured it out... Here is the easiest way I found to change the startup music: Browse the phone from my PC at MyComputer\MobileDevice\, go in the Windows folder in the phone and find the file called "Startup_422.wav" (might be called something else like Startup_somethingelse.wav). Copy that file to your desktop to use as a backup if you get into trouble or want to undo what you are about to do. Rename that file something like Backup.wav or whatever. Using an audio editing software (I used freeware Audacity) make a silent .wav and name it the same name as whatever your Startup_ .wav was called on your phone, then copy it into the Windows folder of the phone. This way, the phone plays the silent version of Startup_422.wav instead of the normal one. To undo this, just rename the Backup.wav to the original name and copy it back over to the Windows folder of the phone. For that matter, you could use any song or sound in a .wav format for startup music if you want using this method. Alternatively, you can use a Registry Editor software for Windows Mobile device and change the registry keys that call the Startup_422.wav file so that they don't call it. I am not a programmer so I diid not want to mess around with Registry Keys, but some people might feel comfortable with this approach rather than creating a silent .wav file. Happy tinkering! 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: How do I turn my Startup/Shutdown music off???
Feb 8 2008, 7:55 PM EST I tried your method Carbully but it did not work. I cut the file and pasted it to my desktop but it would not "delete" it from the phone as it was a Read Only file. I tried to rename and leave it in the folder and that would not work. I took a WMV file and changed it to a WAV, all ready to go but can't get the old file out. Thanks. Do you find this valuable? |
