Randon restarts

My Cingular 3125 is randomly restarting or just shutting down. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you find this valuable?

Gee, Funny you mention that. That why I came to this site. Yes, I am experiencing the same problem with my 3125. I checked to see if they had updated firmware, ROM, etc but it looks like I have the latest.
The other thing I notice is I have a 1GB micro sd card and I will lose access to it at some point throughout the day...I have to power cycle the phone to access it again. I have reseated it and it continues to happen. I love the phone, but these things are getting very annoying!!!

Any Suggestions??

I have a 2GB micro sd card and not only am I having the problem that you are having, but the permissions seem to be "deny all" because I can not access files through ActiveSync or the file browser on the phone.

I, like you, love the phone, but I am also getting very annoyed! My phone randomly restarts when sitting on my desk at work. I'm almost at the point to contact Cingular support.

Have you all checked your battery cover? This phone is designed with a switch linked to the battery cover so that if it is removed, the phone shuts off or wont boot up. If the cover is loose, that is a very good explanation as to why the device is rebooting (poor connection to the switch). 4  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I was checking the cover and it did restart. The cover is in well, but I guess that the battery is not in there well or something. Thanks for pointing that idea out.

Yeah, I have the same problem. To get it to restart, I have to remove the battery cover and put it back on. Very annoying, although I feel a little better that I am not the only person having this problem. I initially thought it was shutting down when it could not find a signal. I am going to try putting a tiny drop of Krazy Glue (or something similar) on the inside of the battery cover (where it will push the switch in after I let it harden). We'll see if that works.

After learning what was causing the restarts (loose battery cover/battery), I have treated my phone more carefully. That has helped out alot. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

I am also experiencing the same problem. It will randomly restart when I close the phone. Also, my 1 GB SD card will not register or show up in the phone. I don't realize this until someone calls me and my Ringer ID sets off the default tone instead of my mp3's. I agree, this is very annoying. I sent HTC support an email yesterday and I am still waiting for a reply.

Before I begin, I have to state that I am no longer using this phone. The problems are too annoying and Cingular does not think that it is a design flaw, nor have they heard any other complaints from other customers. I purchased a HTC Tytn/Hermes. It is so much better than the 3125. The one downside is the size of the phone.

The random restarts when closing the phone can be remedied by slowly and carefully closing the phone. If you let it close just non-chalantly, it will close too hard and restart. The force causes the battery to unseat just slightly enough to kill the power.

As for your ringtone issue, I had no problems when doing that. My new phone will copy the mp3 to the \Windows directory on the phone when selecting the tune as the new ring tone.

Did you buy the 3125 from Cingular? If so, go through their support. I'm going to have mine replaced even though I do not use it.

I am also experiencing random restarts and other problems. I upgraded the ROM but still am having problems. Now it won't even read my 2Gig storage card. I too, like the phone, but until Cingular gets these problems resolved I would not recommend anyone buy the phone. Very frustrating when these companies have great concepts but they can't execute and make a reliable product.

My phone restarts at least 3-4 times a day. I can usually hear it restarting in my pocket, but it occasionally happens in my hands as well. Do you find this valuable?

Remove the battery cover and you will see a little button which if release wll turn phone off.
Because there is a gap between switch and battery cover, this little play will reset phone.
Just take a tiny piece of paper and fold it up into a little square and stick it in there to depress the button then replace the battery cover and all should be well again.

Sadly, I seriously doubt Cingular / AT&T will do anything with this phone as they are discontinuing it. I was hoping that they would also upgrade it to WM 6.0, but I can bet money that they won't do that either. Oh well, good thing I got this phone for free...

This has nothing to do with software or firmware or anything complicated like that.
Its all about a tiny switch near the ... card which gets unswitched because the battery cover doesn't fit as well as it should.
To remedy this, you can either treat the phone a little better (keep it from abrupt jarring and any hard hits), but it will still randomly restart sometimes while it's in your pocket while you walk up stairs or whatever.
Or you could fold up a little slip of tape and stick it to the inside of the battery cover where it lines up with the switch. This fixed it perfectly for me.

If your phone is out of warranty and are ready to give it a try that stupid little swicth in the back can be pryed off. Then carefully sodder the two prongs (this will cure the restarts and your loss of data on your micro card..... my phone works fine since I've done this....... 3  out of 3 found this valuable. I did not have this issue until I decided to upgrade the rom thinking any update is a good thing. WRONG! I loved my phone up until that update... Immediately after the update, phone started loosing contact with the micro device (not seeing the storage card) and rebooting it self while sitting on my desk at work. Alarm is acting funny, I keep having to shut it off several times which I never had to do before. Funny thing is that I have to re boot the phone to see the storage card again. It will work for a while then disappears. Yet when the phone reboots itself it is not the same as me rebooting to get the card back. I read the postings about the battery cover and the little switch, micro card not sitting right etc. But I am telling you I did not have any of these issues until the rom update. I am desperately looking for a way to revert to the original version. Couldn't find a tread on that. Hard reset only erases my data, won't revert back to the original ROM version...... If anyone knows how to flash with the previous version, pls let me know. Tamer 1  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?
