QTEK 9000 - et al
Dec 29 2006, 9:31 AM EST
I have the QTEK 9000. I am in south Florida, Vero Bech ..... and on the beach-side reeive absolutely no bars ( signal ) strength.
On the city-side, it works ok .
Other with Cinglular service receive four or five bars.

Do I have a unit with defective antennae ?

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Otherwise, the phone is great.

For the next generation, HTC ought to place a small screen and tactile keypad on the front ... .... as Nokia does with the 9300 ......

No, your antenna is not defective.

The problem is... this phone is not really designed for the US. It has a Tri-Band radio, and the band that Cingular uses (850 MHz) is not one of the bands that Cingular uses.

You can also forget about taking advantage of this phone's 3G capability. The single-band 3G at 1900 MHz doesn't work with Cingular either. I was able to use this phone while I was in Japan however, but I have very little luck using it in Orlando, FL.

It's a great phone, fast processor, big VGA screen, but just doesn't work well with US networks. Wish I knew this when I bought mine.

If you have Cingular, I'd recommend the Cingular 8525. I've been happy with it, and the 3G speeds are great. Screen isn't as big but it's not as bulky as the Qtek 9000.
