Camera Problems.
Dec 19 2006, 3:51 PM EST Not sure if anyone else has had this problem or not, The Stock camera application will not load, it states: Error: Unable to switch to preview mode. The parameter is incorrect. You click okay and it closes itself. CoolCamera works fine, so it's not the hardware. The stock application also works when taking contact pictures. 2 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Camera Problems.
Sep 25 2007, 12:26 PM EDT Also having problems with the HTC Touch camera - 3 weeks into ownership and the camera application will not load at all (battery life also seems to have dropped off drastically as if there is a drain). Otherwise it is working well - but the lack of camera is very annoying 4 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Camera Problems.
Oct 22 2007, 12:28 AM EDT I am also facing the same issue - the camera application just simply does not launch. Any pointers as to what could be wrong? I have been careful not to expose my HTC Touch phone to shocks/jerks and its barely been a month since I purchased it. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 16 2007, 10:37 AM EST "I have the same problem with the camera, when you press the button it gave an error message and after a hard reset the camera icon is not there anymore. Why does it seem that everything needs a lawsuit? Wouldn’t it be better to actually work to a resolution to your issue? After you performed the Hard Reset, did you allow the customization process to complete? Have you tried more than one Hard Reset? What was HTC's suggestion for this issue? If you took "sorry about your luck" as an answer, you should really press the issue. The only way they get known issues identified is by folks that have problems pushing for escalation/resolution with the manufacture not by trying to get a lawsuit together. I am sure that it is no surprise to you that there are many 3rd party applications out there that can cause a device not to function as intended to... Did you load any 3rd party applications by chance? What error do you get on your device when you press the camera button? What device do you have? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I have done three hard resets and no fix T_T. At this point i can't use the camera and no one has a clue what the problem is...I even updated my phone with the camera patch available at HTC's website still no luck. RE: Camera Problems.
Feb 13 2008, 11:46 AM EST I am experiencing the same problem. The camera application won't start whether I'm using the external button or the program link. I've already done three hard resets since I bought the phone - a Touch Cruise - three weeks ago, but the bug just keeps reappearing. I tried contacting the Austrian HTC service line, but the language the staff there spoke sounded rather like Russian than German and they weren't helpful at all. They just told me that they couldn't provide any direct support and redirected me to some other company in Germany which claimed that they're not responsible either. As my retailer already did before, they just told me that I could send in the phone but wouldn't get a substitute in the meantime altough the product is only three weeks old. Of course I can't risk sending in my only phone for an unknown amount of time. It goes without saying that any clue would be welcome. :) Best regards, Michael Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Camera Problems.
May 6 2008, 4:06 PM EDT Sorry I don't know how to post correctly. I am not sure if this will help. I had the same problem with the camera. After seeing that there seems to be no solution, I start paying around with the phone and got it to work. This is what I can re-call of what I did. I went to programs/Pictures & Videos. The path was not set to my memory card. I changed the path to the memory card, top left of the screen their is a drop box and I selected Storage card. Now it works. I don't know for how long. Hope it helps. Nico Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Camera Problems.
May 6 2008, 5:23 PM EDT I have an HTC TyTn and, almost from the beginning, the camera application doesn't launch and battery life dropped to less than 8 hours on stand-by. Sometimes, after restarting the device, the camera works and battery life goes back to normal, which seems to indicate that they are linked. I have done a hard reset with no results. After following this thread for some time and searching in other forums, I gave up and returned the TyTn to HTC through my retailer. I'll have to wait up to 45 days (with no replacement), which is very inconvenient. At least it's still under the guarantee... I'll let you know when I get it back. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Camera Problems.
May 17 2008, 6:39 PM EDT I was having the same problem with the camera from my AT&T 8525 simply not working. The camera did not work regardless if I tried to start it from the side button or launch it from programs. After seeing this thread I noticed that I was unable to browse any of the files from my micro storage card (a 1 gig from SanDisk). Removing the storage card allowed the camera to start up. I tried again with the card re-inserted and I got the error message unable to start camera. unable to initialize camera.' Ejecting the card and trying again led to the same error message. A soft reset without the card inserted gave the same message. A soft reset with the card in got me back to square one above though I have noticed that repeating these steps sometimes leaves the storage card unrecognized and this can further complicate the camera working. Regardless to the above, the camera function is not working correctly and I feel that HTC needs to release a fix on this. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

FIXED MY CAMERA YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Jun 3 2008, 11:58 PM EDT I have been having the exact same problems on my phone.(HTC Cruise) Tried hard reset etc to no avail. My camera initially worked for a few weeks on purchase and then stopped working no matter what I tried. Put in a customer support query to HTC. Guess what!!! Send it back for repair. Soooooo obviously to do with a software fault and not hardware. Useless support as expected!!!. Anyway, to the fix. I remebered on a previous HTC phone I had the ability to prevent custom installing of software on first boot up. Stopped crap carrier software being installed that took up memory space. Tried it on this phone so I was running only the bare windows mobile 6 image. I then ran the camera application from file explorer - windows folder - camera.exe IT WORKED. :) Sadly the rather tedious problem is now working out which software is screwing the camera application. I have yet to install each of the HTC software apps in turn to test which one breaks the camera. I will post again if I work it out. In order to get to bare image. Hard reset the device. It will then boot and you have to calibrate the screen. After this it comes into windows and then displays a installing HTC software in 3 - 2 - 1. When in does this hit the soft reset button with your stylus. (before it performs this install) It will then reboot the phone to a windows only image (minus the HTC software) You can then run the camera app. I appreciate this isn't a full fix but at least it will help in working out what screws up the camera 0 out of 1 found this valuable. RE: FIXED MY CAMERA YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Jun 4 2008, 12:43 AM EDT Update. Before performing any of the above changes I backed up using Sprite Backup supplied with the phone. When I confirmed the camera worked with the base image I decided to restore from this backup file. The camera started to work again :) Don't know it the problem will resurface but restting to the base image and running the application seems to have flushed out the problem. Well, for now anyway 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jun 16 2008, 12:02 AM EDT "Mine is the exact opposite. Mine will launch for no apparent reason."I am having the same problem. I have had my camera for about 6 months now, and it started turning on by itself 3 days ago. It will also take pictures or video by itself ( depends on which ever was last used). Any ideas?
