I know the feeling my screen has just done the same, the display is fine and i have noticed that just before it died.
that every screen i opened the phone would close the screen, worked out that the screen had the top right hand corner depressed all the time, and now i can't open anything as the screen is depressed in that corner and I can't dislodge. awaiting tech support for mine.

I found this neat site it might help.
Try:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes

You can possible find this device there as well but it gives a tip to try with screen alighnment issues.
Try it and see how it works

That hasn't helped me at all.

Screen is unresponsive still, apart from lighting when I press a button, and telling me that I have a message that I can't actually view!!

PLEASE HELP! I NEED THIS PHONE!
