email setup issues with Gmail
Nov 5 2006, 9:51 PM EST HELP! I bought my new Dash yesterday, and have now spent countless hours trying to set up my Gmail account with it. My internet also didn't work. My first problem is that after setting up the account (I tried it both from the "Setup My Email" button on the homescreen and the "New Account" link on the Messaging screen) I would attempt the Send/Receive command. Every time, I would get a message saying "An error occured while downloading messages. Verify that you have network coverage and that your account information is correct and then try again." I called T-Mobile Customer Support and they informed me that this is a common issue. They instructed me to go to Settings/Connections/GPRS/TMobile Data and change my Access Point from wap.voicestream.com to internet2.voicestream.com. They said that this will allow the email to work for 2 days, and at the end of 2 days (or whenever it stops working again) I would have to change it back to WAP. They also said that MMS wouldn't work in the meantime. Now, the internet works fine. As for email... Gmail will connect, login, and it SAYS that it is sending/receiving, but no messages ever appear in my inbox. Also, I do not get any notifications on new email. I have already checked all the POP/SMTP settings & they are correct. I also know that Gmail is working with Tmobile, because when logging into "My-Tmobile" via my laptop my Gmail account is there, and working. There has to be something wrong with the settings on the phone. Unfortunately I don't have an Exchange server to test another method with. One other thing I found strange is that the DirectPush (4) button in the Comm Manager cannot be selected. It is greyed out! HELP! Someone has to know what to do. The whole reason I bought this thing was the email feature. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: email setup issues with Gmail
Nov 12 2006, 11:12 PM EST I did have a problem with receiving e-mail with gmail also. But I also had to go into the settings in g-mail and click forwarding and pop. Make sure that Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on. Try that and it should work 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: email setup issues with Gmail
Nov 13 2006, 9:22 AM EST i downloaded the gmail client from gmail directly, and it works fine. It puts an app that starts when you go to java in your apps folder. It works just like the messaging app, and you can give it a voicetag to get to it quickly. http://gmail.com/app Which devices work with the Gmail for mobile application? The Gmail for mobile application works with most Java-enabled mobile devices. Listed below are mobile devices which are known to support Gmail. If your device isn't one of them, it's still possible that Gmail will work on your device. In either case, you can download the application by visiting http://gmail.com/app using your mobile phone's web browser. View the full device requirements. Note: The Gmail application doesn't currently work with BREW-based mobile providers (e.g. Verizon, Alltel, U.S. Cellular). We're currently only able to support users in the United States. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: email setup issues with Gmail
Nov 16 2006, 1:54 PM EST Once you create the new MyEmail account myTmobile, you take your dash and download existing settings under Set-Up my email. You have to enable the POP forwarding on gmail.com under settings and you have to enable Check for new email (every 15 minutes, which is the quickest setting) - the default is NEVER. That worked for me. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: issues!!!
Nov 19 2006, 3:41 PM EST I am having same issue, i get my e-mails via the send/receive... but then my entire inbox gets cleaned out on my device (not on the gmail server)... it seems it downloads the "new" e-mail on your device and clears the inbox on the device! Do you find this valuable? |

RE: issues!!!
Nov 25 2006, 12:38 PM EST I think I may have solved my problem. I went to gmail and set the pop settings to "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on". I then went to my T-mobile Dash and recreated the Gmail account. This time instead of having it download the last three days of mail I told it to download all messages. I sent myself two messages from an alternate email and they both downloaded and stayed in my gmail inbox on my Dash. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

It is SO easy to use and you don't have to worry about setting up everything through your phone. I find it easier to use since it's similar to the gmail.com interface. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. email setup with Gmail - cannot send gmail on dash
Mar 18 2007, 9:49 AM EDT My problem is that although i can receive gmails on dash, i can never send email out from the account. I check all my settings on gmail and dash, they seem to be correct. It would just go to the outbox and never get sent. Somethimes it says "verify you have network coverage", but not always. Does anybody have suggestions? Thanks so much! Do you find this valuable? |

The only issue with having GMAIL POP3 on your Dash is that all your sent items will be delivered to your inbox as well, so you have to manually delete them. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: issues!!!
Jun 19 2007, 10:33 PM EDT I'm having this exact same issue currently. My Dash has Windows Mobile 6 installed and I'm connecting to Gmail through the Messaging application, which I find more convenient than the current incarnation of Gmail Mobile. For some stupid reason, each time it checks mail, it'll download new mail (if any), but will clear out any and all old email regardless whether it's been read or not. If it checks email before I get to read it, it wipes it off the smartphone. It doesn't even show up in Deleted Mail. Do you find this valuable? |

Then switched to the second account and checked my mail. After the message arrived, I told the account so send & receive again. I watched the message disappear from the inbox. It does not go to "delete items". It just vanishes permanently. I've tried setting Gmail to "Enable POP only for mail that arrives from now on" and that doesn't fix it. Does it happen only to me? Does anyone know a work a round? thanks 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: email setup issues with Gmail app
Jul 26 2007, 5:09 PM EDT The limiting of replies to screen size happens to me as well. I also noticed that the app crashes a lot. Usually for long replies, I'll hit "done" and it'll take me back to the home screen. When I get back on Gmail app, there's no record of the reply I wrote, so it has to be retyped. This inconsistancy has kept me away from the Gmail app, as pretty as it is. Anyone else having similar problems, or have a solution? Do you find this valuable? |

Aug 9 2007, 1:19 PM EDT I have found the same issue, which has kept me from using the Gmail app very often. On the other hand, I am starting to believe in the power of brevity. Check this out. http://five.sentenc.es Do you find this valuable? |
