My First Impressions - What do you like about the phone? Don't like?

I just wanted to say that it's cool that we have an HTC wiki. A telephone rep from HTC told me about this site. I saw that there was no Sprint Touch Pro 2 page, so I took the liberty of adding it.Sorry in advance for the double post, but each post has a 2000 character limit and I thought a good in-depth first post would draw good discussion. Here are my first impressions of the phone that I personally thought was cool or unique compared to other phones or carrier models. THE POSITIVE *It's fast. I love the extra processing speed and RAM. *Touch Flo 3D interface is smooth and well-made. So far, I've had a good experience with it. There was a bug that made it unable to place calls on the software, but a hard reset fixed the problem. I think it was my fault anyways. One random favorite is the facebook integration with your contacts. However, there are some negatives associated with it (see below). * The 3mm Headphone Jack is a great addition. It's too bad it wasn't made that way for the other carriers. * The Keyboard is very well-made and very solid. The backlight is also a big plus. * Wi-Fi... nuff said =) * The HTC Task Manager. I'm glad at least HTC realizes the importance of having a task manager in the top right corner and handy at almost any time. They realize that (unfortunately) it's used enough to need it as a quick shortcut. Definitely a plus in my opinion. * Opera Mobile 9.5 comes included and as the default browser - *gets on knees* THANK YOU!!! * The nice screen, extra stylus, other small things, ect. - Good small impressions and very convenient. THE NEGATIVES*It comes with the RAM at 71% used up. Although it has 288MB of RAM, which is quite a bit for a smartphone, it comes with 3/4 of it already used for the OS and Touch Flo 3D, which brings me to my next point... *Although I do enjoy Touch Flo 3D, it's responsible for a lot of the memory usage in the phone. It (thankfully) can be turned off for those people that don't end up liking it. Turning off the feature dropped the memory usage down from 71% to 42% when I tried it. *The battery life is very short. It's very understandable given all of the phone's capabilities and I almost think it's unfair to put this against the phone, but I fully charge my phone in the morning and it's half drained by the time I go to bed. I do use it a lot for internet and texting, but I thought I'd at least mention it to possibly warn prospective buyers. *It comes with a lot of Sprint Applications that cannot be removed from the Control Panel. I have only the standard data plan, not all the fancy Sprint features like Sprint music or Sprint Navigation. It would be nice to remove the programs you don't need or won't ever use. *The USB cable that it comes with is too short. It's about 5 feet long, but the cable that came with my older phone was much longer. I am neutral about the AC outlet USB interface. I can see people liking it or not liking it. I still haven't decided that yet. Feel free to share anything you thought was a plus, or think could be improved. Is there anything I missed or didn't mention that you want to share? What are your impressions? What do you like / not like about the phone? Do you find this valuable? |

I share the same feelings as you do BeanoFTW. Below are functions that I have accessed via the TouchFlo3D screens.I have several other cons to add to the list. CON 1. Adding a state in the weather app. I live in Richmond, IN and there is no way in enter this info in the app. I was told by an HTC rep to down load a 3rd party app to accomdate my weather needs. CON 2. I haven't figured out a way to only show a defaulted filtered contacts ie: personal when selecting the people button. After clicking on "people" then "all contacts", all my contacts show up. I have them catorgorized as person, business & suppliers and it sucks when I want to look up my buddies number and i have to scroll down past my suppliers to see his number. It would be nice to just click "people" and have only personal contacts show up. CON 4. I'm a former crakberry user and it was nice to have the option to delete e-mails from device or e-mail account or both. Is there a set up like this in the e-mail options? If so I can't find it. Last but not least I'm not sure if this is a CON but I have deleted, cleared, soft reset & hard reset my phone to clear the call history and I still have the icon on my touchflo screen. Addtion to my previous post. Is there any way to change what is displayed on the TouchFlo3D screen. I'm getting kinda bored seeing the call history and calendar. I would just like to see the clock.

sarcasim71-I like your input about the TouchFlo 3D. The software is really nice, but there are things that can be improved. I believe you can clear your call history by clicking on call history. In call history (All), go to Menu -> Clear call history. I have not yet figured out how to customize the home screen. I, too, would like to know how to do this. Do you find this valuable? |

Not sure w/ the Sprint version, but with the Tmo version, you hold down the "END" key (last of the four hard keys at the bottom right of the device), that locks the screen, then if you tap the power button, it puts the device in sleep mode and blacks out the screen...Tap power again, and the today (touchflo 3d) screen reappears with "unlock" on the bottom left of the screen... Tap that and the the unlock button that appears... This works for the TouchPro2 Tmobile phone, but try it with the others. Do you find this valuable? |

thanks Taz!!! called HTC yesterday and did learn about the lock thing and also found a way to lock with a password...turns out that when you (or at least i) try to put the phone away into my vertical case on my hip, the screen orientation switches to horizontal and back to vertical...when this happens, it automatically unlocks the phone UNLESS to set up the password lock. strange. my gps is also very quirky...ALWAYS says GPS is weak and i have to back up so that it can reload...anyway, other than a few quirks i still love my new phone and am still getting to know it :-)

I had to go to settings -> all settings in order to change button settings. Holding down END KEY enabled airplane mode by default on my device, but changing the setting easily fixed it. Has anyone tried the opera mobile beta on your HTC TP2's yet? I ran moderately fine on mine. It had awesome new features and was FAST! There were some werid things it needed to fix. When tilting the phone or opening the keyboard to type, the software keyboard still popped up. Big downer: When I removed the application, it somehow messed up the settings in my e-mail inbox to where it launches internet explorer instead of firefox when tapping a link in the e-mail. Still looking for the registry entry or setting to fix what it messed up. Do you find this valuable? |

I recently (a month or so) began using a 3rd party app call SPB mobile shell. It really has made the phone more user friendly and allows you to customize your home screen and multiple other features. It's costs around $30 but is definitely worth it. The only thing I don't like about it so far is that the stock quote widget is not available.

"I would place a bet that your case has a magnet on it to keep it closed. Get something with velcro on it instead. Do you find this valuable? |

"I find these comments about magnetic catches on cases affecting the TP2 rather strange in that HTC provide a case with the phone wich has a magnetic closure system consisting of a magnetic strip down the length of the flap. So are we saying that they don't know what they're doing??.(no surprise there..!!) ..or is it a red herring..??? I believe I read somewhere that all issues with magnetic catches affecting phones had been resolved and that problems related to them had ceased. I suppose that, in the event that the TP2 is being affected by this, we should lobby HTC for replacement cases (in leather, this time) which are compatible with the phone...!! ummm i dunno which TP2 you purchased but mine did NOT come with a case...i had to purchase separately at the sprint store! my understanding from my buddy at the store is that HTC didn't provide a case with the TP2 (obnoxious to me considering it's a $600 fone...hello?!!?!?)...so i would be very curious how you got one lol

hey ChrisPlant: found the site for the SPB mobile shell last nite but not alot of instruction about it...will see if they have a help number to call and ask questions before spending the $30....i assume it's safe for the phone and won't screw anything up? (i.e. my buddy at the sprint store said one can download a bootleg version of the latest windows mobile upgrade (which will be legitimately available in jan) but that you run the risk of frying your fone) so i just wanted to confirm this shell doesn't run that same kind of risk as i'm not really familiar with these...??!

I have been using mine for over a month. Last week I uninstalled it and the phone worked fine. I re-installed and everything is cool. I think they have a trial download that you can play with for a couple of weeks and pay the 30 bucks to keep using it.
