Does the HTC Fuze have threaded texting?
Sep 21 2009, 2:03 PM EDT | Post edited: Oct 1 2009, 12:11 PM EDT
I am a current Blackjack II owner, which operates on Windows Mobile 6.1. I am about to upgrade my phone. I've been doing a lot of research and would like to stick with Windows Mobile but would like a larger keyboard than the BJII has. My favorite thing about my BJII is the threaded text messaging (messages are threaded together by sender, almost like an IM chat). I've read that this is a feature of Windows Mobile, and I know the HTC Fuze has that OS. So to any current Fuze owners out there, can you please tell me if this phone also offers threaded text messaging? I don't think I can live without it now that I've had it! Thanks! :)

I have a Fuze running WM6.1 and it definately has threaded text messaging. If you are upgrading to the Fuze due to the small keyboard on the BJII, you might consider looking at the HTC Touch Pro 2. The AT&T version is called the Tilt2 and the rumor mill says AT&T will release it in late October. I have an original Tilt that I use rather than the Fuze, because the Fuze keyboard is too small for me. My wife uses the Fuze and the keyboard is fine for her. The Fuze keyboard is much larger than the BJII but not large enough for me.

It's academic whether it does or not, Windows Mobile 6.1 supports threaded texting, it's an option you can turn on or off in the registry, personally I can't stand it, I always turn it off. Do you find this valuable?

Yes, that is exactly why I wanted to upgrade to the Fuze - the BJII keyboard is WAY too tiny, and I am a woman with small fingers. It drives me insane... Thanks so much for the good info... maybe I will wait around for the Tilt2 then...decisions, decisions! Do you find this valuable?

We were simply confirming that the Fuze running WM6.1 had that capability. Threading is enabled by default but can be turned on or off with a reg edit. It can also be toggled using Advanced Config. 3.3.

My wife has small fingers and finds the Fuze keyboard easy to use. She also likes the fact that the Fuze is considerably smaller than the Tilt (or Tilt2). I'm looking forward to the Tilt2 with its larger size and larger screen 3.6" WVGA vs the 2.8 VGA on the Fuze.

I suggest you get your hands on one at the store and try it out. I have large hands but find the keyboard on the Fuze perfect for thumb typing. I can zip through it with no problem. I am 6'2" with a pretty solid frame...so I am not a small guy!

Yeah, that's the problem... my local store doesn't have the fuze. They are out of stock on AT&T's website, but strangely enough Amazon.com has them in stock, so I was going to get one from there. I am thinking that I won't have a problem. In comparison to my current phone this seems like the keyboard will be more than big enough for me. I watched some video reviews online to try to get a better idea of the size, and the keyboard looks much bigger than that of the BJII!

I think you're right. The Fuze keyboard will seem spacious compared to the BJII.

I used to text very well with my old Treo, before I found HTC phones with slide out keyboards, so you can adapt to almost anything. My wife loves her Fuze. My daughters both have Tilts and think the Fuze keyboard is too small - of course being teenagers they conduct their lives by text messaging, so the bigger keyboard is better for them. Since the Fuze is the Touch Pro, you should be able to get your hands on a TP at Costco or Best Buy. Even if you test a TP by another carrier it will still give you a good idea of how it feels.

I called my local ATT store today to ask when they would be getting more Fuze phones in stock and was told never - that they aren't selling them anymore. He tried to talk me into coming in to the store to see the new HTC Pure (which apparently does not have a keyboard) and then he really tried talking me into getting an iphone... I really don't want an iphone, I like having a real keyboard as opposed to a touchscreen only keyboard. I will have to check out Best Buy to see if I can see the HTC Touch Pro in person, and then just order it from Amazon (a lot cheaper). I really have my heart set on this phone now! I really appreciate everyone's helpful replies!
