flashing screen alert on verizon 6800

I have gone into alerts and checked the box for getting a flashing screen alert and then closed the alert & notification setings. After doing so I have tested
it by calling my 6800 from another phone but I have never gotten the flashing screen alert. I don't see where I have done anything wrong but after numerous times it still does not work. Could this be due to Verizon or am I somehow doing something wrong. I would greatly appreciate any assistance. Do you find this valuable?
