NOT Available: Download / Purchase?
Sep 17 2009, 10:52 PM EDT | Post edited: Sep 17 2009, 10:52 PM EDT
Telus does not include this Quick GPS on the Touch Pro 2. No link, not in windows folder, nor can you download it. Start>Program>Tools is also not available on this phone as described in the documentation. Hard reset also to no avail.

All download links from htcwiki have not worked, you will get a "not signed with a trusted certificate" error.

Do not bother wasting hours of time on the net searching, it is apparently NOT AVAILABLE.

If you get a cooked ROM usually it will have quick GPS pre-installed.

But i do confirm your info.

Hey thanks, for the reply.

Do you happen to know if, with a cooked ROM, will I lose the TouchFLO 3D? What about firmware updates? Will a cooked ROM allow it get past the "Invalid Vender ID"? (Would unlocking the phone get past this?)

Sorry for all the questions! But thanks in advance if you have the time to answer any.

I may sound frustrated, but I get the feeling we are going backwards. They (carriers and hardware providers) are going back to 1990s styles of agreements/co-operations that bring the consumer to their knees.

The future is getting less friendly!

Most cooked ROMS i have tried have both touchflo 3d and titanium(if wm6.5). The one I am currently running on my TD has a option when you download it to save memory,

In order to install a cooked ROM you have to unlock it. There is a chance of bricking your device, May void warranty.

Talontsi07 is also a Telus customer and from his posts it sounds as though Telus is as draconian as Verizon. Very restrictive in allowing its customers to use another GPS service. It is tempting to flash a cooked ROM ... and there are some good ones at xda-developers.com. You do need to CID Unlock the phone and unfortunately that will void the warrantee on a relatively new device. I use cooked ROMS on my Tilt because it has been out of warrantee for almost a year, but when my Tilt2 (AT&T's version of the TP2) arrives I will probably stay with the stock ROM for a while in case I have to exchange the device for a new one. The Tilt2 will come with WM6.5 already installed. 6.5 will be officially released on October 6. You should check with Telus to see how soon they will release a 6.5 ROM for your TP2. That new ROM should (may) solve the annoying problems, but it's up to Telus whether they will continue to block your access to third party GPS programs. Verizon seems to have changed their position on that recently and now claim their updated ROM will allow its users to access third party GPS - although I haven't heard about any of their users successfully accessing GPS with third party software yet. You should talk with Telus and threaten to change carriers if they won't take the block out of their ROMS. The reason they get away with this stuff is that most users don't know enough to figure out that they are actually being blocked by their own carrier! and complain!

Hi,

I just wanted to throw my two cents worth in. I have the T-Mobile Version of the Touch Pro 2 and I do have the Quick GPS on it. I had to exchange the phone twice due to issues with it but have been relatively trouble free so far with the third one. I guess it's like they say, a charm.

At any rate, my third one came without Yahoo Messenger and AIM in the instant messaging page as it had been with the first two. So I'm beginning to feel like you can't have everything. I don't know if T-Mobile took it off or what but I ended up buying third party IM software for this phone after having it on the first two.

Just wanted to let you know, though, that it does seem to be a Verizon thing because it is available on the phone.

Good luck.

There are situations when a carrier releases a new device and discovers minor bugs in the ROM that wreak havoc with the device. It may be that T-Mobile realized they had issues with Yahoo Messenger and AIM and decided to make a minor revision to the ROM to disable or delete them rather than trying to figure out wha the problem was and fix it. When I get a new phone, I always go to Start>Settings>System Tab>About. That tells you what version of WM you have and also gives you the Build Number. This is the best way to tell if a new Build Number is being "slipped in" if you ever get a replacement phone. I will bet that your third TP2 is running a different Build of the WM6.1 than the previous versions. That is why Yahoo Messinger and AIM are missing.

Thanks for the information. The next time, and hopefully there won't be a next time, I'll be sure to check it out. Actually, when I did a system restore on the new one from my previous backup of the old phone, it did say it was a different ROM version.

I just had to do another master reset and restore last night on my new one. I had issues with IE on it and, I swear, T-Mobile tech support only knows one fix for every problem and that is a master reset. That's the third time I've chatted with them and each time I've had to do a hard reset. Last night, unfortunately, the agent wasn't too friendly and kept rushing me through it. I did a backup just before the reset but, in my rush to accomodate her I forgot to take the SD card out and lost that backup. I ended up doing a system restore manually via the sync process. I was up until 4:30 doing it and still had work to do this morning for a couple more hours. What a nightmare! My point being that I've had more issues with the Touch Pro 2 then I care to remember. I love the phone features but it hasn't been easy owning one this far.

Good luck with yours and, thanks again for the information.

Thanks for sharing the information. I am looking forward to the new Tilt2, but not the debugging that I have come to expect with a new phone. When I first got my original Tilt, I was ready to throw it out the window, but worked my way thru the morass and finally got it the way I wanted it. When I get my Tilt2 up and running, I plan to use the old Tilt to experiment with some of the new cooked 6.5 ROMs. There are some great ones available.

I think you'll really like the Tilt 2. I think the Touch Pro 2 is feature rich and very enjoyable to use. Except for, as you say, the usual debugging of a new product it has been a lot of fun with it. I about 9GB of apps and music on there so restoring manually is a real nightmare but, thank heavens for the necessary SPB Backup app. A lot of the apps I have are probably not suitable or ready for WM6.5 Professional yet. so I'm a little leary about upgrading once it comes out. But I'll be in the same boat with Vista and Windows 7 even though I hate Vista for all it's quirks.

When you get yours, would you mind posting to a thread or emailing me to let me know how it is with other apps? Take care.

Your comments are encouraging and I appreciate them. I have been using Sprite Backup (Which is part of AT&T version of WM6.1) and it has been a real lifesaver. I am a big fan of Spb software but have not tried Spb Backup ... it's on my to do list. FYI, I have been using Spb Mobile Shell since Version 1.6 and just upgraded to Version 3.5. It is a dream! So much easier to navigate than Touch Flo3D. Plus with its cross platform capabilities, I have it loaded on my Fuze and my Tilt, so I can pick up either device and the user interface looks the same. I don't have to remember which device I'm using, they both work the same way. You can download a free 15 day trial from Spb and if you like it, you can buy it, get a registration number and just input it, you don't have to reload the program and set it up a second time. It also has a settings backup, so when you get it the way you want it, you back up the settings and can reload them if you ever have to reload the program. I experiment with different ROMs and lots of software, so I have a crash and reload pretty often, so that settings backup is a real benefit for me.

I'll post my impressions of the Tilt 2 as soon as I get it set up and running.

Thanks for the info about SPB Mobile Shell but I, too, have it on my Touch Pro 2 and I agree with you about it being a dream. Several years ago I had another WM phone, don't remember the model anymore, but I purchased SPB Diary and SPB Finance. Both are a part of a package that SPB sells and they offered me the option of completing the package now and issued me new licenses for my current phone. I hate to say it but I think I supported the staff at SPB this year on my own.

I bought the communication package and the business package both at discounted prices for my previous purchases. So, if you have the SPB Mobile Shell and decide to buy another SPB software product email them for your discount code and you're entitled to 20% off all other purchases.

I am a fan of their products as well, as you can tell. I actually prefer Newsbreak to the SPB News because you can add stations and customize it more than you can the SPB News. In case you ever consider a News product. The really good thing about SPB software is, as you say, you can download and try it first to see if you like it. In the case of the News, though, it was part of the package and I figured I was basically getting it for nothing so no loss there.

Thanks, in advance, for the feedback on the WM6.5 when you get it. I appreciate all your help.
