Help With Touch Pro 2 Text Ringtones Please

Hi guys. I've tried all the tricks that are associated and published for getting ringtones to show up in the text message sounds list. Nothing has worked. I've copied the file to mydocuments, myringtones, sounds, mymusic, and anywhere I thought iti may work, and it hasn't. I really don't want those silly sounds, so does somebody have anything new that applies to the Touch Pro 2 getting custom ringtones for text? Because I'm not sure the Touch Pro steps work for this one. HELP PLEASE. Do you find this valuable?

Put the sounds in .wav format and drop them into the root of your windows folder.

There is a difference in how WM6.1 handles ringtones and how it handles alert tones. If you want a tone to announce an incoming or outgoing text message, that is an alert tone not a ringtone. Ringtones can be in various formats: mp3, wmv, wav, etc. and can be as big as 600K (in most devices). Alert tones must be .wav format (as denco7 told you earlier) and they usually must be 200K or less in size. Alert tones must be in the Windows root directory or the device won't find them.

You need an audio editor to clip the segment of the tone that you want to use. Oftentimes the same software that will convert the mp3 to wav will have an audio editor function. If not, check out http://www.avs4you.com/ It is a suite of audio/video editing software, and you can buy what you need rather than all the products. I use Audio Editor and Ringtone Maker to do these jobs.

Just a note to let you know you can also get free mp3 trimming software off the net. I use mp Trim and it works great. I not only make my own ringtones and alerts but you can also join Swapmo for free and get a ton of alerts and ringtones from their site.

I was also using a trial of audio conversion software but that has expired now so I'll have to look for another one. If anyone knows of a free conversion tool I'd sure be interested in hearing about it.

Have fun with it, I do.

That is great news! It sounds as though HTC/Microsoft finally came up with a reasonable solution to the ringtone/alert tone issues and you have discovered it. Is this info in the ROM documentation or the phone user's guide? Please post which TP2 you have, which operating system (WM6.1 or 6.5) and your carrier, since different carriers have different ROMs, it's helpful for us to know that info.

Are you storing your ringtones in the root directory of your storage card, or in a ringtones folder?

Also, are you storing ringtones and alert tones in the same folder, and have you been able to get alert tones in mp3 to work on the TP2?

The info I posted in #2 and #4 apply to the Tilt and the Fuze (and most Touch Pros) but this info has obviously changed for the TP2. Your discovery will keep many people from tearing their hair out or throwing their phones out the window : )
