Word Completion...
Aug 5 2009, 12:33 PM EDT | Post edited: Aug 5 2009, 12:33 PM EDT
I just upgraded(?) from the Pro to the Pro 2 and for the most part I am pretty happy with the improvements and new features.

One thing I can't seem to find are any settings for Word Completion on the Touch Pro 2. I actually became quite used to that feature and find myself texting/typing slower without it.

I can't be the only one who is unable to find it and turn it on.
Where can I find the Word Completion settings on the HTC Touch Pro 2?

Not sure how that is pertinent to 'word completion' but thanks for the invite to pick your brain.

My Telus CDMA TP2 shipped with WM6.1 and the CDMA 6.5 upgrade isn't ready yet.

The xt9 word completion only works while typing in xt9 mode.
Still can't find a way to get it toggled on using the keyboard (screen or physical).

xt9 mode only works while typing in with the on-screen phone keypad but you have no word completion option when using an on-screen keyboard or the actual slideout keyboard.

Try this...
1) Create a new email message.
2) Access the on-screen keyboard menu by clicking the list arrow just to the left of whatever icon is currently displayed in the bottom center of your screen. You will have to open your on-screen keyboard/keypad first to see the list arrow.
3) Choose 'Touch Input Settings'. In the first screen you have 3 options; turn on symbol lock, turn on typing sound, vibrate when keys are pressed.
4) Click on the XT9 settings tab on the bottom of the screen. You will find options for; Spell Correction, Word Completion in XT9 mode, Word Completion in ABC mode (for phone keypad only), and Auto-Substitution.
5) Click the About tab. My TP2 show I'm using Touch Input for Pocket PC version 2.0 (build 34855).

I believe the problem is a combination of the word completion in ABC mode only being usable with the phone keypad. I have tried every conceivable combination of predictive text settings to get word completion usable with the on-screen keyboard and the slide-out but have not found the right combo yet.

I used a Touch Pro for about 1yr before upgrading(?) to my TP2. I like the new unit and it's capabilities but really miss the proper word completion option.
What the heck is the point of limiting predictive text features based on method of input?!?!?!? That makes absolutely no sense.

I've got a Verizon TP2 and have selected all items on item 4 in Sedg's post. Whenever I use the on-screen keyboard (both vert and horizontal) there is an XT9 toggle button on the left side of the keyboard above the Shift arrow. This works for the on-screen keyboard but XT9 only defaults to "on" with the verticle keyboard. If you want XT9 with the slide-out keyboard, slide it out and then touch the keyboard selector on the screean to launch the on-screen keyboard. Toggle to XT9 and then close the on-screen keyboard. This will give you XT9 on the slide-out keyboard. Do you find this valuable?

With older versions of Windows Mobile, word completion worked in other input modes than XT9. like Sedg, I want it to work with Letter Recognizer and keyboard and it doesn't. It did on all my previous SmartPhones, just not the Touch Pro 2.

10. UPDATE!!!
Yesterday, 11:48 AM EST | Post edited: Yesterday, 11:48 AM EST
Okay,
I was able to edit the registry and come up with a solution that worked for me on the slide out keyboard.
Check this thread for details...
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1720237/Word+Completion+Fix+for+6.1+ROM+Update

After I did this I reverted back to my original settings and tried that XT9 toggle on the on-screen keyboard and felt like a total newb. OF COURSE THAT WORKED... doh!

For anyone else that stumbles across this thread seeking a solution make sure you don't overlook that little toggle. IT IS ONLY VISIBLE IN FULL QWERTY MODE!!!
I completely overlooked it as my default on-screen keyboard is the compact key version titled only "keyboard" and that toggle is not there.

I was also unable to get the predictive text to work in letter/block recognizer mode but I'd be very surpirsed if there isn't a simple reg edit to help with that.

I've been swamped with work so I haven't had a chance to find a WM6.5 upgrade for my TP2 yet. I am hoping with that the rest of these predictive text issues are eliminated.
