Touch Diamond power button not responding

my touch diamond doesn't seem to be responding at all when i press the power button. i left the phone on charge overnight (switched on) and when i went to check the phone in the morning it had turned itself off and now will not switch back on. Can someone please advise is it due to battery problem or a hardware problem? the phone is approximately one year old.
