HTC Touch Pro - Bluetooth Active SYnc Issue
Jun 8 2009, 12:28 PM EDT | Post edited: Jun 8 2009, 12:34 PM EDT
I'm having issues getting my touch pro to sync via bluetooth. Here's the scenario:
Phone is paired to the PC, and shows service "ActiveSync" as ticked, although sometimes it seems to swith to "Serial Port" on both.either the phone and PC.
When i choose "Sync via Bluetooth" I get an error that no computers with active sync are paired, even though they show paired, and as active sync as a service. ActiveSync service is setup as com3 on the PC.
If I hit the "Refresh" button in the pairng service dialog on the phone, and watch the ActiveSync Service properties from the PC, it makes the connection for about 5 seconds, and the PC has a pop-up that says that the phone is connecting to the activsync service over com3, but Active sync never opens.

Specs: Win Xp SP3
Widcomm bluetooth stack
AvtiveSync v.4.5
Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
JJ

I had hopes that this forum would be a bit more active. jamie, I am having exactly the same problem with a U S Cellular HTC Touch Pro, purchased two weeks ago (date now is 7/15/09), has newest rom etc. and has recently been hard reset. Set up Active Sync v4.5 originally with the USB cable.

Paired the phone with the computer (XP Home SP3, all current updates), Broadcom 2046 Bluetooth 2.1 USB UHE Dongle. I stumbled into the initial successful Bluetooth active sync while accomplishing the pairing. Since the first time I have been un-successful trying Bluetooth and have been syncing using the USB cable.

Tried getting help from HTC tech via a 30 minute phone call - - no joy.

when i sync with bluetooth i have to tfry to connect 2 or 3 times in a row, it seems like when it tries to open the port the device times out before it is succseful so usually after the second time i try it works but sometimes takes more. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

The problem could be with your bluetooth stack because htc devices might require Microsoft standard Bluetooth stack to work properly 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

"The problem could be with your bluetooth stack because htc devices might require Microsoft standard Bluetooth stack to work properly"
rabidraccoon,

The native Microsoft BT is one of the possible issues that I have been trying to work thru. I can't seem to find any information on which software and/or dongle would use the native Microsoft BT stack.

I have been trying a lot of different option settings on both the phone and computer sides of the equation and get in-consistent results (none successful) including several different dialogue boxes on the computer and the phone.

Does it require the pairing to be initiated from the computer or the phone? Does it make a difference (advisable or required) to initiate the 'Sync' from the computer or the phone?

On another note, although it would seem to be related, "Beaming" a file to the phone from the computer works quite well but requires the phone to be in "visible" mode each time. I hate to walk around with the phone in BT Visible mode for security reasons so I have to manipulate the settings every time (time out in 5 minutes).

I moved from a Motorolla RAZR to this Touch Pro and considering how easy the whole blue tooth sync thing was on the Motorolla, I keep thinking that I'm missing something. I understand that with the previous experience I was dealing with only one computer (instead of two) and a relatively dumb client, so I'm wondering how to set up either the computer or the phone to replicate my previous experience (one of them a dumb client in the sync evolution).

I spent a little time with a gentleman in Chicago on the US Cellular help line this morning. We tried a bunch of different things and finally the BT active sync started working. The issue with active sync repeating the sync process ad infinitum also quit.

Prior to calling, I had:
Deleted, re-downloaded and re-installed MS Active Sync 4.5 on the computer.
deleted the pairings on the Touch Pro.

We tried all of the steps in the operation manual, the HTC how-to and FAQ etc.. In other words everything I had been re-trying for the last week and a half. The last step before everything started working was adding a second incoming com port in the Bluetooth Devices, Com Ports tab, opened through the BT icon in the tray on the computer (now has Com3 and Com 4, both of them labeled Incoming). This seems counter-intuitive to me ..... but it is working. I'm going to have to study a bit more!

Sorry about the double post, I didn't see the edit option!

Prior to calling, I had:

Deleted the pairings on the Touch Pro.
Accomplished an initial sync with the USB cable after the re-installation of AS 4.5.
The phone shows no Com ports for BT.
The tech told me that syncing required initiateing from the phone - not to use the computer.

We tried all of the steps in the operation manual, the HTC how-to and FAQ etc.. In other words everything I had been re-trying for the last week and a half.
