I think it has to do with either worn USB pins , or the fact that my battery is a well worn 1 3/4 years old. For now I just charge it with the USB cable. It won't hurt the phone or the battery. If your phone will charge from your computer but not your charger, it sounds as though you need a new charger. IF your phone will charge and sync from your computer, then you know it's not a sync/charging port problem in the phone. You need to get a charger that is for HTC mini USB jacks. Not any mini USB charger will work. I can charge a Motorola Razr that is in my company with an HTC charger, but the Motorola charger won't charge my Tilt. It is safe to charge your phone from your computer, but it takes much longer. The power from a PCs USB port was intended to provide power to USB devices, but not really intended to charge ancillary batteries. You could connect thru a separately powered USB port, but I've never had much luck syncing thru one. I always connect directly to my PC.
