Syncing A New Phone With Exchange - Weird
May 12 2009, 12:26 PM EDT
I had a Tilt phone that I lost. It was connected to MS Exchange via ActiveSync. I obtained a replacement Tilt and when I connected the phone to ActiveSync, I accidently deleted all of my contacts :-(I took the Tilt back and got a new HTC Fuze. When I connected my Fuze to Exchange via ActiveSync, it downloaded all of the contacts that I thought were deleted. Were these contacts possibly cached at AT&T somewhere or did I really not delete them in the first place? I realize this is really a Exchange/ActiveSync/HTC Fuze integration question, but I was amazed that my contacts came back. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Do you find this valuable?

Are you sure that the contacts were gone from Outlook after syncing with the replacement Tilt? Could it be that your contacts are acutally saved on your SIM? Or that you used the AT&T Backup Service? If you were actually syncing to Outlook and the contacts disappeared, you can generally recover them by looking in Outlook.bak. This is the automatic backup file for Outlook.pst. Having just gone thru this very same issue with my HTC Touch Pro I can tell you that your contacts and whatever else you "sunk" up is NOT on an ActivSync anything. It's actually on the Microsoft Exchange Server---out there some where. I did mine with google and I had to use a combination of instructions from HTC & google plus some of my own twists and turns. Works perfect now.
