"device has stoped it's responce to screen touch, therefor i seem to be out a brand new toy. that was sure an expensive mistake. guess i might learn gps on my next expensive mistake"From one of your recent posts on another thread, it sounds like a hard reset is in order. After that, the Tilt (TYTN II) works great as a stand alone GPS. If you have an unlimited data plan, you can download Google Maps for free and the Tilt will acquire the GPS satellites and show your position. Google Maps only downloads the segments of the maps as you travel, so you need an unlimited data plan, or Google Maps will cost you a forture since it is constantly downloading map segments. If you don't have an unlimited data plan, or you want turn-by-turn directions, you will have to buy a GPS program that has the maps you need. You can then download them to your storage card, fire up the GPS and it will provide your position and allow you to put in a distination and obtain turn-by-turn directions as you drive. I use Pharos - Ostia as my GPS program and it works great. The newest version comes on a micro SD card that you can just insert into your phone and it has the program and all the maps preloaded. Per my post #3 above, you have to have an unlimited data plan, or everytime Google Maps goes out to the internet to access a new map segment, you will be charged for data download. If you don't have an unlimited data plan you should look at buying a dedicated GPS program that allows you to load the map segments you need onto your storage card, so you don't have to download them from the internet.
