HTC Touch Pro Video Streaming Issue
Apr 10 2009, 10:12 AM EDT | Post edited: Apr 10 2009, 10:12 AM EDT
Hello all,

I can stream videos and audios fine with youtube, etc. but when trying to stream a live feed of a webcam I am unsuccessful. It streams and plays fine on a computer's windows media player. For instance, the url is mms://ipaddress:port (mms://127.0.0.1:1010) when playing it on my Sprint HTC Touch Pro, it gives me the message "Cannot find the file. The file might have been moved, renamed, or deleted. If the file is stored on a server or a removable storage card, the server or card might not be available".

Is there a specific media player app that I need to run to make this happen? I was really hoping that I can access the webcam (home security) while I am on the go.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm not confident I understand your situation exactly, however if "any help is appreciated", hopefully you wont mind me giving you some feedback.

Typically, the IP address "127.0.0.1" refers to "home" (i.e., "this device"), so if you can access the stream fine from your PC using that exact address (mms://127.0.0.1:1010"), then by definition you should *not* be able to access that same stream from your mobile device using the same address. If you're trying to open anything under "127.0.0.1" from your phone, it's going to try to find the specified file on the phone itself.

Instead what you probably need to do (again, if I'm understanding your situation correctly) is look for the file under your PC's IP address. If you're behind a router and are trying to access the webcam via a private network (i.e., your LAN), then the IP you should be using in the address when opening it from your phone should be something like "192.168.1.100" (or something similar). This can be found by going to your command promt (Windows Key + R, then type "cmd" without the quotes) and typing: ipconfig.

If you're trying to access the stream outside of a LAN (e.g., from work or a friend's house), you'll probably need to make sure your computer is correctly setup to host it and that you have port-forwarding established via your router. Once that is all taken care of, you'll simply need to replace the "127.0.0.1" part of your address with your router's address instead. You can find this by going to a site like www.whatismyip.com

If nothing else, hopefully this will at least point you in the right direction. Good luck!

This issue exists on my friend's Touch Diamond and the Touch Pro 2 that that I just bought recently.

My touch pro 2 was new, without any third party software installed, it plays youtube without problem. But for my Web Cam, in Stream player, when I type in "rtsp://...../live.sdp.", it will connect, but stuck in buffering at 0%.

With the same IP cam setting, I had no problem to play the stream on my old Dopod 838pro (I made a hard reset to make sure no other software was installed).

It must be a bug on HTC touch series. I wish someone could have a fix on this.
