Mogul problem: sluggish, freezes, takes DAYS to boot.

The phone works fine, until you go on a trip to an area with marginal reception, then after a few days it becomes totally sluggish. If you reboot the phone, it just sits at the Windows Mobile logo screen for literally DAYS before it finally reaches the desktop. It's almost totally unusable. Messaging fails to start. Most other apps will load, but EXTREMELY slowly. Attempting to sync it freezes the phone.

This phone has the latest firmware from HTC and it is set up with an Exchange profile set to retrieve messages as they come in. I can't hard reset it because there is important data we need to retrieve off it.

I'm thinking it has something to do with the fact it is accessing an Exchange server; we have two other Moguls here that don't use Exchange and they have never exhibited this problem. We've already had the phone replaced once, so I kinda doubt the problem is hardware.

Any ideas?

IF you have a memory card in it, remove it and reboot. and see if it boots all right without it. a glitched file on a card can make it run slow. Had that happen to me and did the hard reset but then replaced the card and that fixed it. I reformatted the card and the old card has worked since. Do you find this valuable?

I had the same trouble with my Mogul, a little bit ago. Bear with me on this story, but it has relevance. I had checked email with it before wse were served dinner and all was good. I checked it again after we were done with dinner and I could not get the phone to boot. It never was the same after that. It would take hours to boot. I was able to get all my data off the external card by sticking in in another computer (it wasn't encrypted). I ended up upgrading the phone to WM6.1. I think the issue had to do with all the email accounts I had configured (one was an Exchange server plus yahoo, gmail, hotmail, my ISP accounts). I don't think the external memory card had anything to do with it, in my case. Anyway, I did not add all the email accounts back in. All has been good, since. You may be on to something with the Exchange angle. It's been a little bit since I did all this, but I don't think ActiveSync was of any use, either.

Hope this helps.
