Me & my Shadow
Feb 9 2009, 8:08 PM EST
I bought my t-mobile Shadow predicated upon the ability to manage, edit, add, delete and otherwise manipulate my contacts FROM MY COMPUTER. Now more than 30 days later, I find from HTC that I can only do that with MS Outlook. The problem is I have over 300 contacts in Outlook and when they are copied to my phone, everyone's' info is tripled ( home, mobile and, fax). That makes 900 entries - divided up like Kerry, Kerry1 and Kerry3. I once had (as I explained to the salesman @ t-mobile) a Nokia 6103 that I could go to the Nokia site and download software I could use to manage my contacts. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is there a 3rd party program I could use with this phone? Do you find this valuable? |

"I bought my t-mobile Shadow predicated upon the ability to manage, edit, add, delete and otherwise manipulate my contacts FROM MY COMPUTER.When you are copying them to your Phone, are you saving them to the SIM? That is the only reason I have seen that would cause the Contacts multiple contact numbers to be separated into individula listings (the SIM card only supports 1 contact number per contacts whereas Outlook includes everything in one listing). 1. As stated above, I don't need or want ALL of my 300 contacts on my phone. It seems what you are implying is that (assuming I discount the issue of multiplicity) I load them all, then manually delete the ones I don't want from the phone. Say I need only 50 contacts on my phone. Does this procedure not seem ... ridiculous!?2. When I was given my phone at the store, they had (apparently) copied the contacts from my old SIM to the new phone. Therein began my multiplicity problems. I was told to download "a program" that would enable me to copy, store and manage my contacts from my computer. That program turned out to be ActiveSync - which further multiplied the problem. AND I STILL WAS NOT ABLE TO MANIPULATE MY CONTACTS! 3. I believe you are wrong. I had a Nokia phone for the longest time and used their Nokia PC Suite (free at http://www.nokiausa.com/A41449549) to: * Manage my device calendar in the Calendar view of Nokia Communication Centre. * Create and delete contact groups on my device, and add and remove group members. * Start calls and pick up incoming calls with Nokia Communication Centre. * Get a notification on your PC about a low device battery level. * Save device battery by setting off call, SMS and battery level notifications. With this, I could download my contacts, edit, create and/or delete the ones' I wanted and then upload them all back to my phone. Once again, Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is there a 3rd party program I could use with this phone? Do you find this valuable? |

Set your phone to not show sim contacts and set Outlook to sync only one set of contacts. 2. You obviously did not set up Activesync correctly because I don't have that problem. AND PLEASE DO NOT YELL IT HURTS MY EARS 3. Why did you buy an HTC phone, just to tell us how much better you think your Nokia was. ? Once again, what are you asking for? An app for your phone to mange your contacts on your phone? an app for your PC to manage your contacts on your PC? Or a syncing app to move contacts back and forth. And once again, this is not the HTC tech support or the HTC 24hr help line. I DO appreciate your willingness to help me. The answers to most of your points are already displayed. First, I don't know if this phone even has a SIM card! There are no directions on the phone to access the SIM. How do you "set Outlook to sync only one set of contacts"?Secondly, I don't have an issue with ActiveSync, other than the fact it doesn't meet my needs. Third, My renewal was coming up and my Nokia 6103 was 4 or 5 years old. I went into the T-Mobile store (after looking at the Nokia phones) and asked for a phone that: 1. supported PC - based backup and contact management. 2. I also didn't want another flip phone. 3. I also wanted a phone that I could use my bluetooth to send voice commands to my phone like, "Phone Kerry". I was offered the HTC Shadow as a phone that would fit these requirements. That's why I bought it. The Nokia phone was crap. As I have said, I liked the software that came with it. I wanted a phone that included software like it. That's what I asked for when I bought the Shadow and that's why I'm here asking members of "a forum made up of fellow HTC phone users, trying to share similar problem and experiences in an attempt to help fellow users". I sincerely hop I've answered all your questions and hope someone can answer mine i.e., Is there a 3rd party software that will allow me to add, edit and delete contacts on my phone (the Shadow). I understand, you're not professionals. The HTC Customer Support guy suggested I check here for such a program. If there is no such program, just tell me so. Do you find this valuable? |

ms outlook? you have a windows mobile go to microsoft and download activesync 4.5 ,great phone the shadow is has lots of memory and can use up to 4g sd card, this is what i would do make a contects file on your sd card if you have one if you dont get one, add all your contects there, this you can do over activesync on your pc, but then like the other guys were saying just add to your sim card but true on sim card you can only add phone number and name, to show only sim card contects go to start then settings then phone then call options there highlite the show sim contects if you dont want sim card contects to show then un highlite, and yes i had to do the same thing i had every contect two times and did had to delite the add on ya a pain it was lol, i would not go with a 3rd party app for your contects not a good idea your can do this with your shadow it well take time to know your shadow and how to use it belive me its a great phone,1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
