I have several questions regarding the Sprint Touch Pro.
Jan 24 2009, 11:38 AM EST
I want to know why I can't connect my phone to my laptop when there is a shared internet icon under programs? I don't want to have to pay sprint more money to get my phone as a modem, I would like to know if there is a way to hack into my phone to get it to work in that matter. I want to know if you could help me out. If you know any info on how to use my Sprint Touch Pro in that fashion. I would like to be able to do away with my internet service that I have through cable. I feel I pay enough money to sprint to be able to use my phone and share the internet between the two. I you could please help me I would greatly appreciate it.

"got the HTC Touch Pro Jan 7th 2009 love it. got the simpleeverything 100 a Month Plan I theather it and I use the PDAnet Program. After trial cost me 34.00 one time cost works great as long as you have a good signal. and I have used the Phone on several computers. it sometimes drops a connedction but I am getting streaming video speeds . So far so good I think that sprint will eventually find a way to interrupt it if they think you are theathering. I am trying to figure out it I can hook some sort of an external anenna to it. I was going to buy a red-fly but this works WAYYYYYY better. Best of luck--Bohanna Do you find this valuable? |

Do you type that link into the internet browser on the Sprint Touch Pro cell phone to get it to work on what? I would like to know this before I try it by myself and it does not succeed. I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me in a timely manner.

I use it on two three different laptops. From what I understand once you pay for it ,, it stays on the phone and doesn't care what laptop it is connected to. for a 500 dollar phone,,,, the extra 34 bucks is well spent since it does all the work for you Best of luck ---- Bohanna Do you find this valuable? |

A couple things about tethering, Number one , it is against your user agreement with Sprint, without a dedicated tethering plan. ( I hate the phone companies as much as everyone else and I am not the data police, so I don't really care. Just want you to know what " can " happen,) If they look at a spike in data usage on your phone, and suspect tethering, they can cancel your plan, charge your for any subsidies on your phone and charge you per KB for the data that you used. Big Bill. Read this :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477071Also you apparently are a lot younger than I am, and have probably grown up with Broadband. Do you have any idea how slow and laboring using your dial up on your phone as your only internet portal will be? The bandwidth coming through your phone is a fraction of your cable bandwith, Hope you have alot of time on your hands when working with the internet. Do you find this valuable? |

Big Bill. Read this :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477071HMMM ???that may be so however unless you are downloading massive amounts of data from what I Understand there is no way to tell a theathered phone from the regular one when it come to internet usage. If they say unlimited and use that as a selling feature than they would actually have to easdrop on your Phone or hack into it and invade your Privacy I beleive there are ALL KINDS of wiretapping laws that they would run afoul of. They make a device called a redFly and that doesn't have a CPU but it does connect to your phone so you can surf the net. I know commiecast had a 250 gig a Month limit that kicks in with their "Unlimited "plan but as far as the sprint plan goes If they try to boot you or add additional charges it may me grounds to terminate your aggrement with them with no cancelling Penality not to mention the public relations nightmare they would face if the press got wind of their definition of Unlimited . Also who were you referring to as Big Bill ?? did I miss something?? thanks Bohanna Do you find this valuable? |

It expressly prohibits tethering, and uses that as the grounds for termination. the difference between the amount of data that you can download using your pda and the amount of data that you can download in the same period of time with your laptop is VERY noticeable. You don't have to reach your gig limit for them to suspect tethering. They don't know what you download, but they do know how much and in what time period, now with all the customers they have, they don't do the math on every account, but they could. As far as the PR nightmare goes, everyone knows that tethering is against the rules on a regular data plan, unlimited means unlimited calls, texts, MMS and pda data. Why do you think everyone is so sneaky about it. I understand that AT$T even blocks your connection with internet sharing through your IMSI unless you have a tethering plan. I was refering to a BIg " Phone " Bill if they catch you. As I said, I personally don't care, but like the thread I refered you to, I wouldn't want to have to fight a $1000 bill. So it would seem any company who wants to sell you a smart phone Doesn't want you to connect it to a computer. Hello? I am pretty sure that Big Billy Gates would have a problem with this idea. Also I beleive you are being more than a bit presumtive when you say "everyone knows that tethering is against the rules on a regular data plan, unlimited means unlimited calls, texts, MMS and pda data". Are you serious? No they don't not at all. The unlimited part of the plan is the reason that many of us (myself included) switched over to the all in one plan. It would seem that the goal of these all in one Plans may be to sucker you in and then try to charge you by the Byte. Thats like selling a car to someone and then telling them where and how they can drive it. There are also numerous legal remedies with regards to someone cutting off your phone, especially if you use your phone for Business. I really get a kick out of any company that thinks that they can control the technoligy to the Point where they are the arbitrator as to what is permitted! Like ANY ONE who thinks they can change the meaning of "theathered" to suite their purposes. "That's where the Public relations part comes in. Since the individual will have hard time going up against any BIG company it makes sence to use the press to point out the inconsistinacies in the sales pitch vrs the real deal. I am intrested in finding out how a company knows that you are theathred? Especially if there is some sort of threshold of data usage that sets up a red flag. I know I can stream youtube and other sites onto the Phone. How is that different from the amount of data used by a Theathered phone? Thanks Bohanna Do you find this valuable? |

This is cut and pasted from the Terms of Use Agreement that you and everyone else signed when they bought their phone. The fact that people sign stuff without reading it first, gives them no legal right to dispute it. "Except with phone-as-modem plans, you may not use a phone (including a Bluetooth phone) on a plan with unlimited Vision/Power Vision as a modem in connection with a computer, PDA, or similar device. We reserve the right to deny or terminate service without notice for any misuse. Availability of downloadable or streaming content is subject to change." Sprint also lists a " Phone as Modem " plan, that is separate from their simply everything plan, for $15 per month. If tethering was part of the data plan, why would they list this as an option? I think people would have a hard time covincing anyone that they ran up a $1000 tethering bill because Sprint mis-led them. Do you find this valuable? |

"This is cut and pasted from the Terms of Use Agreement that you and everyone else signed when they bought their phone. The fact that people sign stuff without reading it first, gives them no legal right to dispute it.I understand the fine print assumes that both parties agree on the definition of terms. Which is already in question . Google the word "Tether" and see what comes up. Not only that but the term "Modem" is also in question. Expecially "Phone as a Modem" assumes it is actually a Modem and Not as a Phone. Thats like saying a screwdriver as a Chisel. It if's your screwdriver and you want to use it as a Chisel it is yours . If you were renting the phone that would be a little different . one of the Main selling points on the all in one plans is they provide internet access. I strong case could be made for providing a misrepresentitation of a service but not really providing what both parties have agreed on especially with all these open ended terms that are bandied about. It all depended on what your definition of "Is" Is I guess. Look at the hoopla that Commiecast tried to get away with their unlimited internet access plans until they had to modify their agreements. With things like routers , Wireless, Bluetooth etc , in the Mix there are plenty of reasons to question the terms of ANY thing relating to aggrements. But I guess that's what keeps the Lawyers in Business!! gotta go Bohanna Do you find this valuable? |
