Tons of issues with HTC Touch Pro w/ Verizon
Jan 4 2009, 10:55 PM EST
So I got the touch pro and was excited about it but all I have had are troubles... Mines been super slow at times, horrible battery, sometimes the screen won't turn on when it's sleepin, but all other lights come on, had a time when I turned the phone on and the touchflo didn't start up and had to turn phone back off and on to get it to work... Anybody else havin this many problems or do I have a defective phone? I really like everything about it, but just don't want to have all these problems the entire time I have it (have only had it for a little over a week).

I just got mine a few hours ago and after playing with it for a few hours, the battery was down to 20%. It's definitely buggy...I'm still trying to figure out if maybe it's just a little too slick for me, or if the interface is what's jacked up. When i want to view my text messages it seems like there's eighty ways to get to it, but trying to reply, well, it's just weird half the times. I'm trying to figure out how to maximize the battery, other than the lighting it doesn' tseem at first glance like there's anything else that can automatically reduce the battery drainage. Unfortunately full features means large battery power requirements. Conservation includes adjust backlight on and off times. Brightness. Big power drainers are Bluetooth, wifi and Gps, so make sure these are off when not in use. Close programs when done. Your battery is not going to last for more than a day, so get that out of your head right now, but with power management, it will last a useful business day Do you find this valuable? |

My IT guy installes a "cracked" OS which helped, and once I had set it up more to my liking (and admittedly learned my way around it) things got much better. My battery now lasts days if the use isn't heavy use, and the strange sudden battery depletion has stopped. Not sure what the story was there. Some of the touch screen applications are still fluky (Touch Flo for one), but I think that these will get better with future software improvements, because the fault there is, I believe, the software and OS, not the phone, because some apps react very well to screen touches. Experiment with settings and I think you'll be much happier. Do you find this valuable? |

I have had my Touch Pro since November - but it has been in for repair twice - which means I have actually HAD it for about a month! First I was told that I should switch "everything" off to keep a battery-time more than half a day! I used Vopium to call abroad, and I used WLAN for other reasons. This consumes battery! My worst problem is the Touch Flo function! I can't get it to work properly! If I am to search a contact for instance, 99% of the time (or more) I end up calling someone by mistake (twice my boss!!!) because the Touch Flo has a random functionality! Sometimes I move my finger - and nothing happens in a minute. If I touch te display again it can do just about anything, depending on where the software is at that very moment! In the beginning I touched it after some 15 seconds as nothing happened, doing that a couple of times, I could se the contacts rolling around the display several laps beforethey stopped. The fact is I hate it if someone asks for a phonenumber as I know I will not be able to find it for them! I can only use this phone to call people whose phonenumber I know! I always have another phone with me to be sure I can call if the battery runs out, if I can't get hold of the phonenumber, if it will freeze and won't restart an so on, and so on,,, Help me! Is this a defective phone?? All they have done at repairs is re-installing the software!! I can tell you I will never buy an HTC-phone again without borrowing one for at least a couple of hours to be sure it is OK!! Do you find this valuable? |

First I was told that I should switch "everything" off to keep a battery-time more than half a day! I used Vopium to call abroad, and I used WLAN for other reasons. This consumes battery!I agree, the Touch Flo function is a big disappointment, and yes, I too would scroll through contact names, intend to stop the scrolling by touching the list once, and instead of stopping, it would dial the number... usually the wrong one! BUT, I think I found a solution. I found a $30 piece of software that totally changes how your Touch looks and its menus. It is called "SPB Mobile Shell", and THEY WILL LET YOU TRY IT FOR FREE! Not only do I really prefer the menus that I have now, but I could swear that the finger scrolling has really improved too. I should add that the Mobile Shell gives you 2 contact buttons on the Today screen, which each opens up 4 contact pictures, and if you pull your finger down over one of these, rather than calling, it gives you the contact's name and whether it is their home phone, cell, etc. Here is a link for more info or to download it: http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html/display_product.jsp?categoryId=cat3880102&srcPage=category&id=prod5480708&sf=48190044 Once it is installed, you just click start / settings / today / items, and only check the Date and Spb Mobile Shell. I bet you'll really prefer it, but it costs you nothing to try in any case. Hope this helps! P.S. Here's a hint for finding contacts quickly: I get into Contacts, then slide out my keyboard and type the first 4 letters of the person's name. Any applicable matches appear and you just tap the one you want. If you get too many matches, just type a few more letters. It is as fast, maybe faster, but certainly results in zero incorrect calls. The phone can be making the call while you slide the keyboard closed, so it's pretty fast. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

To get maximum battery life you need to charge a new battery 12 hours with the phone off, if your like most people who pull it out of the box and turn it on while your trying to learn how to use it, you will limit the battery life from then on. I got a new Alltel Touch Pro the first of the year and I can go 15 hours and still haven't gotten a low battery warning. I don't use the bluetooth or LAN but I have GPS enabled. I turn off all apps when I'm done with them I have to agree with the Touch Flo, I've been dialing people by mistake. Ive been hacking Touch Flo and have gotten a few things to work better but not everything but I've only been at it a couple of weeks.

I have an Alltel Touch Pro, but I found TF3D difficult to use and it and its dialer use a large amount of ram. I found turning it off and using SPB Pocket Plus, SPB Mobile Shell, with FTouchSL provided a better, (for me), user interface. I did read on PPCGeeks.com that doing a hard-reset seems to help out of the box. So its understandable a custom ROM might help just due to having to do a hard-reset to load it. You could look on XDA-Developers.com and PPCGeeks.com for tips / tweaks. both groups have a lot of friendly people that can help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=437 (Raphael / Touch Pro) http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=63 (Touch Pro) SPB / SPBClub -- they make a lot of very usefull software for the Windows Mobile / PPC phone OS http://www.spbclub.com/forum AE Button Plus - lets use reprogram the SEND (Green) / ACTION (Center) / END (Red) buttons with 1 click, 2 click, 3 click and Long Press actions to get more 'logical buttons' . http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php 1 out of 1 found this valuable.
