Cingular 8525 Windows Mobile 5.0 to Windows Mobile 6 Update Software

Hi. An AT&T wireless customer support representative gave me the following information: Download (http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html) the latest Windows Mobile® 6 Professional software update for the AT&T 8525 that updates the entire operating system from Windows Mobile® 5.0 to Windows Mobile® 6 Professional plus adds many other updates and fixes. CAUTION: Firmware updates will DELETE ALL applications, data, and settings on the device. Back up all information on a PC or storage card before installing the firmware upgrade. NOTE: This software download will be available only for 90 days through 1/31/2008.I would like to download the update to upgrade my AT&T (Cingular) 8525 with Windows Mobile 5.0 to AT&T (Cingular) 8525 with Windows Mobile 6.0, however, the link provided doesn't work; and the HTC customer representative I spoke with on the phone says the HTC contract with Microsoft regarding Windows Mobile 6.0 has expired. HTC can no longer host Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrades for our phones. Doh! Please advise on where to obtain the software, performing this upgrade, and as well as the technical specs, like memory requirements, problems, etc. I assumed this would have been provided on the download web page. The memory req. are essentially the same as 5.0. I just discovered that HTC pulled the WM6 update for the ATT 8525 from their website. I want to download the update in case I decide I want to upgrade my 8525 phone to Windows Mobile 6 however I can't get anywhere with the link provided above:http://rapidshare.com/files/82291010/RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe.html When I put this link into my browser, it just sends me back here. How can I get access to the update to download it? Or is someone who has it, willing to email it or post it at a website online for those of us who didn't know that this upgrade was only going to be available for a limited time? I had a miserable time trying to find Windows Mobile 6 update for my Cingular 8525. Finally I lucked into this wiki and found the link to rapid share. I haven't tried it yet but this is the most progress I've made. I contacted both HTC and ATT.: same answer - not available. I was sent to Microsoft mobile who referred me back to HTC and ATT.... I left questions on a few forums and found others in the same predicament but no answers... I wish I had found this forum first.

LATE bloomer and no-one had informed me . Edge wireless out of business where i purchased cingular8525 and now went to att and was informed of upgrade for the first time. Sorry if this seems redundant from others now me. Can't seem to get down load . can anyone help PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

OK: I downloaded the upgrade before and I am doing it again now to test.You have to look at the ite for a sec. The free download takes about a minute befo9re it will download, That's because they are trying to upgrade at a price for a quicker download. Still in high hopes to get job done."i just used the link in the first post. you need to take a closer look at the "ad" you will see 2 "speedometers", click on the link under the one on the left that says "Free User". That will take you to another screen that will tell you that you have to wait 60+ seconds. wait patiently, then download your file. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I downloaded the 6.0 ROM upgrade to my computer but I'm hesitant and un-sure how to get it on my 8525. I know I need to back-up all my data....then what? Sync the phone to the computer and???? Also, I'm worried about if it doesn't work and I won't be able to use my phone anymore. Will I be able to put the 5.0 ROM back on? And where would I get it from? Also, those of you that have 6.0 and are using it, how does it look? How do you like it? Thanks for the help. Erik

Sorry, I can not answer any of your questions. I want to try but not too electronically inclined. I guess i need someone to hold my hand. HTC should be trying to help abit more for those of us who need the down load; that were not informed of the down load expiration date or that there was a download. I wish i could help you but if you do find something please let me know. Sorry......

Yes, the download definitely works. Upgrades from WM 5 to WM 6 without a hitch. If you have problems after the install, you should use your phone's CD that has the WM 5 version and re-install that onto the phone if the WM 6 doesn't work. WM 6 has an onscreen keyboard and file managers that are easier to use than WM 5. It should also give you better wifi connections. The upgrade was very easy for me. I would also like to recommend using the same rapidshare.com website that you got WM 6 from and search for the SPB shell that will make the 8525 interface even better to use - icons become bigger and graphics look more sophisticated. For any more questions, just search Google for answers. We can't answer all of your questions for you.
