Unable to re-establish an ActiveSync connection after Internet Sharing
Dec 30 2008, 3:28 PM EST
On my HTC Mogul running WM 6.1, I cannot re-establish an Active Sync (version 4.5) connection after I tether the Mogul to my laptop using a USB cable and use the Internet Sharing functionality. The only way to re-establish an activesync connection is to reboot my laptop and mogul; otherwise the activesync icon simply remains inactive in my system tray and nothing I do can start it up. I know there has to be a better way, but I can't figure it out. Any thoughts? Do you find this valuable?

"On my HTC Mogul running WM 6.1, I cannot re-establish an Active Sync (version 4.5) connection after I tether the Mogul to my laptop using a USB cable and use the Internet Sharing functionality.I have the same problem with my HTC Touch HD! I cannot re-establish ActiveSync connection now! Not even after soft-reset my device and re-booted my notebook! Now, my TouchHD will always try to establish internet sharing, without giving me a choice if I want to Sync, use it as data device, or use it as internet sharing!?? Your help would be very much appreciated, thank you. Do you find this valuable? |

Anonymous you misread the question I think. The problem is not that you can't do both at the same time, the problem is that once you tether your device to your PC and create a network connection, every time you connect your phone from now on it tries to setup the internet connection and ActiveSync fails to work ever. I have the same problem with my AT&T Tilt. I really needed to use my PC but Comcast crapped out (surprise) so I tested out the Internet Sharing and it worked very well. I found that the only thing I couldn't do really was play FPS and the like. But now, I can't connect to ActiveSync any longer. I've deleted the pairing, but I can not delete the Internet Connection that is created after plugging my Tilt in via USB. I can disable it, but I can't delete it. And even then, ActiveSync still doesn't work. Someone please help! /facepalm Do you find this valuable? |

I've had similar problem that sounds like it's related. When i plugged in the my touch pro it used to bring up the menu asking me whether i wanted to connect as ActiveSync, USB or modem. I used the phone as a modem for the first time about a week ago and now it no longer gives me the option.I can change the otpion manually using settings > connections > usb to pc (and yes, the option to ask on connect is checked) but the otpion to connect as a modem doesn't appear on this screen. Ideally i'd like it to start asking me when i connect again (like it used to) but i'd settle for knowing where the otpion is to manually tell it to function as a modem. Any ideas? I've answered part of my own question. The use phone as modem can manually be invoked by going to programs > tools > internet sharing.Still no luck in getting it to give me the option when i plug in the usb cable though... Do you find this valuable? |

"ya thats right why would u wan to do that..You cannot run the internet on your phone, using the broadband connection going into your laptop using BT or USB. You can use remote access software to remotely access your laptop desktop, but I don't know how much control that gives you to access your computers browser. Do you find this valuable? |

I'm having a similar problem... I can't activate ActiveSync when my computer is connected through internet. So what I did is pull out the plug(RJ45) from my computer then voila, the activesync works. It's still pain because I want to access internet through my LG KS20 via USB ActiveSync. I've got the Answer for the Touch HD users (Don't know if the Mogul/Sprint works the same)1) Go to start -> settings -> connections (The last tab in HD) 2) Select USB 2 PC 3) Uncheck the checkbox under the radiobutton of ActiveSync What is says is: If the computer does not recognize ActiveSync connection, uncheck this. Hope this is what you mean! Do you find this valuable? |
