Have you used QuickGPS to download the ephemeral data for the satellites? Your device needs to have the QuickGPS data downloaded to speed up the satellite acquisition. More importantly, the device needs to know approximately where it is on the planet. Have you input the location settings for the device? When you have both of those bases covered, you need a GPS program. You can try it first with Google Maps, but you need to be connected to WiFi or have and unlimited data plan because Google Maps downloads the map segments from the internet. If you have all that covered and you still aren't finding satellites check the COM port and manually set it to COM4 and baud rate of 4,800 bps. You can also look at the page on this Wiki entitled "GPS Software" for more help and ideas.

where do you get quickgps from because there is this one i managed to snag but after installing it, i just keep getting this error that says it isn't signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cant be found and then it suggests that i reinstall if the problem persists...

"Where do I find the "use GPS" option. "
If you are using Google Maps, you must be connected to the internet before loading Google Maps. This can be done by WiFi or 3G. If you use 3G you need an unlimited data plan because Google Maps downloads map segments as you go. When GM loads. Tap the "menu" soft key in the lower right corner of your screen - then tap "Use GPS" If you have downloaded QuickGPS data recently (within 6days 23 hours) the GPS fix should take a minute or two to lock. If you don't get a lock, try going outside where there is no interference from buildings.

I have the original touchpro xv6850. I have tried every permutation of the above variables, and googlemaps keeps timing out without finding a satellite. My location is finding me within a radius of 200 meters, but that is using cell tower triangulation I am pretty sure. Last I heard, Verizon had gps disabled, has this in fact changed?

Verizon claims they are no longer producing ROMs that block third party GPS, but you would have to flash a new ROM that enabled third party GPS would work on your phone. It isn't a matter of Verizon making the change within their system, the ROM in your device would have to be upgraded.

You are exactly right! I found the hidden new ROM and my GPS works!
Sure would have been nice to have been notified by someone that gets my money each month that this option was available. Thanks.

I'm sure a good marketing expert could make this roll out of a new feature a big deal, but Verizon would have to admit that they purposely disabled the function initially and are now re-enabling it (in response to pressure from their installed base).

Try:
http://pcdphones.com/phone_downloads.aspx?bid=110&cid=1&mid=328&carrier=Verizon%20Wireless

I think this is where the HTC rep pointed me to. Contact them if this no work.
I've been spending the last week reinstalling everything; the process (flashing?) resets everything.

Some carriers add that into there roms as an emergency location service. I think that that is only for Alltel phones.

Most people don't want their carrier to be able to track their movements.
