Performing a Hard Reset on a Sprint HTC Touch Pro Phone
Dec 18 2008, 10:10 AM EST
I am attempting to perform a hard reset so that I can get past the Password screen because I have forgotten the password. I have read the manual where it says to hold down the volume down key and then press the enter key (I assume they mean the center dot under the screen) and then while keeping them depressed press the power key. Nothing works. In talking to HTC Support they suggested that I hold the volume down key, the enter key and press the soft reset button. That did not work. Any other suggestions? 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

First turn the phone off by holding the power button on the top of the TP for a few seconds.Next hold down the Vol Down button, the center of the Dpad and the power button (on the top of the TP) for a few seconds. Follow the on-screen prompts. Good Luck!! 3 out of 6 found this valuable. Do you? |

"This is a easier way to do fix the problem go to SETTINGS click on SYSTEM then click on CLEAR STORAGE then enter 1234 then click YES. and your phone will be working like a new phone GOOD LUCK."That is usually a good way if you can get into the phone, but it is passworded. You press the vol down key and the enter key while keeping those depressed insert yoyr stylus into the soft reset hole . Remove the stylus while still depressing the other two keys. A screen should pop up telling you , you are erasing all data. Then just follow the screen. If it does not work do it again until it does. I have always found it very difficult with big fat fingers to keep the keys on my Tilt depressed while I soft reset, keep trying it will work. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

"That is usually a good way if you can get into the phone, but it is passworded.Well I seem to have a phone that does not want to perfom as designed. Guess I will be contacting the person that sold me the phone and get it returned. I tried all of the possible methods a couple of times as well as attempting to enter various passwords. Thanks for all the suggestions. Do you find this valuable? |

I just got off the phone with Sprint and they walked me through doing this for my HTC Touch Pro. Here is what I did:1) Open the phone dialer and enter ##786# 2) This opens a statistics screen with a bunch of info 3) in the lower right hand corner, click menu, then choose "Reset" 4) A pop-up will open asking for a code. They told me to enter "838424" Once I did that the phone reset back to ORIGINAL. I mean *everything* you installed or changed will be GONE and all of the original apps will be reinstalled. I had been playing around and accidentally deleted a Sprint TV file and this restored it. Of course I had to resynch to get all my contacts and reload my pictures and ringers, but if you want to restore your phone to factory, this should work. The only thing is that I would be wary of is the code they gave me to enter (838424). It's possible that this could have been specific to my account. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

You are correct. The code they gave you is specific for your phone. It is called the MSL. It is different for everyone so this code only works for you. You can get this info from Sprint CC.

After a week everything froze, I can't even do CLEAR STORAGE, can't start any programs including that one! Would hard reset clear the junk files that (presumably) got accumulated and took all the memory? Sorry if this is trivial, I am still a learner... Do you find this valuable? |

"Hi,Yes a hard reset will clear out all the crap, but it will also erase all data and Added programs. 1. Turn phone off 2.Depress center key and Volume down key and hold 3.Insert Stylus in small (soft reset ) hole in bottom of phone and hold Hold all three until screen appears with warning on it . follow screen. If that doesn't work try 1. Turn phone off 2. Depress center button and hold 3. Turn the phone on with the power button while holding the center button. 4. Continue holding center button until warning message appears on screen. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

It took me awhile to locate the answer to this HTC Pro hard reset question. I tried all the suggestions I found online and on this site. The manual had the answer all along that worked for me:1) Turn off device (I take off the back cover and lift the battery out slightly then push it back in) 2) press and hold the Volume down button while at the same time pressing the center "Enter" button. Keep them pressed 3) While volume down and enter buttons are depressed, press and HOLD the power button until you see a screen that says: "This operation will delete all your personal data..." <rest of verbiage snipped. 4) Follow those on-screen instructions which will tell you to push the volume up button to continue performing reset. 4 out of 4 found this valuable. I've found that if the voldn+enter+power does not work, it's likely due to the phone not being off long enough. I know this sounds weird, but I've found if I try to hard reset before the device is off for at least a minute, it won't work. When all else fails, here is my sure-fire solution... 1. Turn off phone 2. Lift battery out and push back in 3. Press the stylus soft-reset button hole 4. Wait 60 seconds 5. Proceed with the voldown+center+power and HOLD 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Wow, thank you! I tried all the solutions to no avail. Then I pulled the battery and left it out for 60 seconds. Put it back in....and it worked perfectly. I'm pretty sure ALL of the solutions on this page probably work so long as you do the waiting. No idea why, but whatever works!
