HTC Touch Hd- any mapping/navigation software compatible?
Dec 6 2008, 11:12 PM EST
I have a new HTC Touch HD phone. I'm having trouble finding mapping/navigation software that is compatible with the high resolution screen (WVGA 480X800). Does anyone know any vendors with such a program? I am interested in voice turn-by-turn directions.Thanks. 4 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you?

Goto www.OnTheGoSolutions.comThey recommend the "TomTom Navigator 6" http://www.onthegosolutions.com/accessoryDetail.asp?itemMDL=HTC_TOUCH_HD&itemName=HTC%20Touch%20HD%20(Blackstone)&accMDL=GPS_MAPS_TOMTOM6&sameAs=HTC_TOUCH_HD 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I gave a call to TomTom tech support, and they told me that version 6 is not compatible with HTC Touch Pro. I have it. It won't work. Having the same problem, haven't found anything yet

Thanks for the comments. Here's what I have found:MapKing 2007: It sounds compatible but I live in the US- the MapKing maps cover mostly Asia. Tom Tom Navigator 6: not compatible Tom Tom Navigator 7: Per UK tech support: TomTom Navigator 7 is currently only available pre-installed on a small number of PDAs in Europe. It is not available as additional software so therefore it is not compatible with your PDA...may release it as separate software in the future. Copilot 7: Per sales rep: Unfortunately CoPilot 7 will not work with that device...only supports screen resolutions up to 480x480. Next version may be compatible with larger screen resolutions... 1st Quarter 2009. Ostia Smart Navigator (Pharos): tech support: have not tested our navigation program with this phone so can't guarantee that it will work. Garmin Mobile: (most promising answer) Tech support: The Touch HD does not currently display on our site due to some specific compatibility issues with certain features. The software itself works, but when accessing specific features (including Panoramio), users have experienced "assert failed" messages which force the application to exit. This is being evaluated by our engineers who anticipate it will be corrected in the next software release of Mobile XT. Please periodically view our Buyer's Guide: https://my.garmin.com/gmbg/start.faces. Input carrier information, phone model, country of residence and desired mapping regions. It should provide you a link to the appropriate product when the Touch HD is added for support. iGuidance 4.0: requires 3rd party gps management software to run. I did not ask about the screen resolution problem. OnCourseNavigator 8: support: does not support that resolution; unlikely to work. Telenav: phone not compatible; requires a monthly fee for me. Anyone have other ideas? 7 out of 7 found this valuable. Do you? |

I've just bought Navigon Mobile Navigator 7 for PDA. I had some troubles making it work - the software seems to work fine on my old TyTN II, but every time I started the MN7 on my Touch HD nothing happened. Doing a lot of google-work I finally found some XML-files in a forum, and after replacing the old files with the new ones, the MN7 works fine. The problem has to do with the high resolution on the Touch HD.MN7 is simple and userfriendly, but I'm missing the functionality "navigate to contact", which is excluded from version 7 - it seems to be implemented in previous versions! Despite this functionality absence, I'm satisfied with the Navigon software. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

I use Microsoft Windows Live Search. Its free and works just fine. Voice recognition software so u just say restaurants or addresses and no typing neccessary. Only thing i dont like is theres no voice turn by turn directions, so u have to follow the GPS.

I am interested in voice turn-by-turn directions. All navigator programs work but they need "cooking" What is your country to tell you what is the best for you. In my country, Greece, the best maps are in the "Destnator". It works perfect with an extra skin 480X800. Also I have try MIO and iGO but they need a lot of changes and hacking. I just loaded (destinator) OCN 8.0 on a Htc HD - will not run. Installs from the micros sd card etc, but only shows the splash screen momentarily then shuts down. I am waiting for a response from the manufacturer (OCN) on this issue. If skins are the answer, how do you load another skin if the program will not run in the first place.

TomTom support confirms that TomTom 6 is NOT compatible.TomTom 7 will be compatible with unknown release date. Route 66 claims on their website that they are compatible. This is a real nuisance, for someone who wants to buy state-of-the-art phone, but cannot find compatible software. Can HTC help, accelerate,...? This MUST be affecting their business. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

To followup my long message above, I bought and installed Garmin Mobile XT North America and it works great. I understand from previous conversations with tech support/sales that a few specialized features such as"Panoramia" have some glitches with the Touch HD, but I have not used these and I have had no problem with the program. They expect the glitches to be fixed by the time the next update is ready, likely in the next month. These updates are free to download. I am very pleased with the product.

"Goto www.OnTheGoSolutions.comI have Navigator 6 and the HTC Touch HD phone. I can tell you that Navigator 6 does not work. So far the only thing i have found that works is Google navigator that you can find on www.pdafun.net. I don't think it is as good as TomTom Navigator 6. I wish that TomTom would get their act together and keep up with the new phones. I used to have the AT&T Tilt and upgraded to Mobile 6.1 and it worked fine. I think that TomTom Navigator 6 is having trouble working with the higher resolution screen on the Touch HD. 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

I think that TomTom Navigator 6 is having trouble working with the higher resolution screen on the Touch HD."Ok so I have an update and SOLUTION to my HTC Touch HD and TomTom Navigator 6 problem. I GOT IT TO WORK! TT6 does not support the higher resolution that the Touch HD provides (480x800). So what I had to do was reduce the screen resolution to 480x640. I downloaded a program called WVGAFIX. You can get it from this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455974 - Once you install this application to your phone simply run it as then select 480x640 resolution. You can then install the TT6 application. Every time you want to run TT6 you have to run WVGAFix prior to running TomTom6. When you are done just run WVGAFIX again and select 480x800 to restore your phone back to the original screen size. This is a minor pain in the ass but it really works! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
