HTC Touch in reboot loop. Battery problem?
Dec 1 2008, 7:47 AM EST | Post edited: Dec 1 2008, 7:47 AM EST
The battery of my HTC Touch Cruise was totally drained yesterday without the phone shutting down.
Now, as soon as I plug in the charger, the phone boots up. But after the "smart mobility" screen, it shuts down and reboots itself. This loop continues endlessly. I already tried removing the SIM, removing the SD-card, soft reset, hard reset and I even re-installed the ROM (I can start up to the boodloader screen). However, still the same. The moment I pull the charger out, the phone is dead immediately. So I think the battery is still empty, but it doesn't charge! Does anyone recognise this problem and can you confirm that this will be solved when I buy a new battery?

Well, I bougth a new battery. And it worked!....
for one day. After a full charge, the battery went dead after 4 hours standby and the same problem is back. The new battery won't recharge and the phone reboots after connecting to a power source.
This will be the 3rd time I have to return the phone after 2 earlier repairs (different issues). Again 4 weeks without my phone, with all my agenda and contacts in it.
I will never buy another HTC.

I have the same problem. After every time I go to the internet, the battery goes dead. Occasionally it gets into a reboot loop & the only way to get out of it is to take the battery out & put in another one. Just putting the same one back in does no good. I have found, though, that even though the battery shows empty, the phone will last for awhile - don't think the battery is really dead - just something wrong with the indicator. We have 2 of these phones & they both do the same thing. Do you find this valuable?

I've had the same problem with my HTC TyTN 2. Finally, this morning, it seems to be charging ok without going into a permanent reboot loop. I suppose I'll ring and have it repaired if the problem doesn't solve itself.

The battery isn't old and lasts for a decent amount of time, so I don't think it's the problem. I wonder if it is a problem with the circuitry when the voltage is very very low from an exhausted battery.

If the problem resolves itself I'll make very sure I never let the battery drain so low again!

Same symptoms happened to be but after the phone accidentally felt in a swimming pool. I have successfully dismantled it to remove all the moisture, assembled all together and it worked ok for a few weeks, until one day I've found it completely dead. Attaching the charger would make the phone reboot itself repeatedly. I let the phone settle for a whole day. Than the next day I've tried turning in on and it was working fine and so it did for the next few days. Now, out of the blue, with the phone just resting in my desk, I grab it, tried turning it on.. no good. Attaching to the charger shows exactly the same symptoms as before: htc logo appears and the phone reboots itself in an apparently endless loop.
I guess this one is lost.. :(
