When i make a call and bring phone to my ear, the screen goes dark...i suppose to prevent me from dialing another number on the touch screen ? battery preservation ?
i was told in the at&t store to just otuch the power button to get the screen back

AT&T is correct. By design to save battery and prevent accidental button pressing, the screen on the HTC Fuze will turn off a few seconds after you call begins. To turn it back on, press the Power Button once or remove the Stylus from the silo.

Did you tweak the amount of time that the backlight will stay on? From the factory, my backlight remained on for only ten seconds . . . I changed it to 60 seconds.

You can also turn the screen back on by pressing the "volume up" button on the side of the Fuze

Do you know which Registry Key is the one to increase the amount of time before the screen goes dark. I changed the time on my Tilt using Kaiser Tweaks, but would prefer to edit the registry on my Fuze to accomplish the same task.

Thats a feature so your ear does not pushing buttons on the touch screen. I usually press the end call button when I'm doen since that will end the call and turn the screen on. The only time its a problem is when your going to voice mail and you have to press some buttons in responds to the recording. Do you find this valuable?

How did you change that setting?

I originally changed the settings on my Tilt by using Kaiser Tweaks. It's a tweak program that allows you to change registry settings, without going into the registry. It was designed for the Tilt (aka HTC-Kaiser & ATT-8925). If you have a Fuze there is another tweak program that works well. It is called Advanced Configuration 3.3. It does much more than the old Kaiser Tweaks, and I have actually loaded it on my Tilt and my Fuze. In order to use AC3.3 you must download and install Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5. AC3.3 is written to work with NCF3.5 so you have to install NCF3.5 before installing AC3.3. I have detailed instructions and URLs for locating both programs on this site.

It sounds like a lot of work to change one setting, but AC3.3 allows you to tweak so many other things that it is really worth the effort.

I just checked the Wiki site and finding the URLs on my previous posts isn't very easy. Here is the info:

To download .NET Compact Framework 3.5 go to: http://www.4shared.com/file/70802792/27e60d6a/NETCFv35wmarmv4i.html?dirPwdVerified=ad84d3a5
when you have downloaded and installed it: soft reset your device.

Then download and install Advanced Configuration 3.3 by going to: http://www.4shared.com/file/82034868/8bd01b62/Advanced_Configuration_Tool_v33.html
Find the icon for AC3.3 in the Programs Folder on the device and tap in it - that will execute AC3.3

If you want detailed information on using AC3.3 go to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070&highlight=Advanced+Configuration
That is the site that explains all of Schaps' settings that are built into the program and what they do.

The program has over 200 tweaks available. Good Luck!

You're welcome. Be sure to check out the xda-forum page that explains all the things you can do with AC3.3.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317070&highlight=Advanced+Configuration

I've been using it for several months and I'm still discovering many of its features. When you check out Schap's users guide, don't forget to send him a donation if you can. If I hadn't found Advanced Config 3.3 and Kaiser Tweaks before it, I would have probably switched to a different phone. Like you I was pretty frustrated with the Tilt because I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted it to. The hackers like Schaps and Dutty spend much of their time writing these programs that users need. For me it was the difference between hating my phone and really enjoying customizing and using it. BTW - check out Mobile Shell 3.0 by Spb Software. It is the coolest and most customizable user interface I have ever used.

I just discovered a strange issue with Advanced Configuration 3.3 on my Fuze. I installed it on my Tilt and used it to disable the screen going dark during a call by going to "Phone" and setting "Phone Sleep during Call" to "not allowed" and setting "Fast Sleep During Call" to "disabled". I tried to do the same thing on my Fuze and neither of those settings are there. All other settings are there under "Phone" but not those settings. I am running the same version of AC3.3 on both phones. I think I used the same CAB file to load it on both phones. Does anyone have any ideas?
