Touch Pro WiFi
Nov 13 2008, 12:18 AM EST | Post edited: Nov 13 2008, 12:18 AM EST
My touch pro phone's WiFi connects to the wireless Internet, but when trying to visit websites in IE or Opera browser it gives error (site cannot be found). Even other applications that depend on internet (example - weather app) does not work. Can someone please advice on how to fixing this problem, Thanks. Do you find this valuable?

In my phone I get the status as connected next to the wifi connection name and also in my access point I can check the list of connected devices and my phone is listed in that too. but even though both connecting to each other I am not able to use the internet on my phone.

I use the same accesspoint to connect my laptop and PS3 and they work good. so no defect with my access point.

I just got my Touch Pro and found this thread after having the same problem. After going thru everything it looks like the DNS resolution (or translation) is not taken place using the WiFi. You can type in the ip address and it works fine, but who wants to do that for every website. Do you find this valuable?

Found something out. If you set the router to to reserve an ip for your phone using the phone's mac address it seems to place the information needed for the WiFi to work at home. About it working elsewhere, who knows? Do you find this valuable?

Thanks Codedat for trying to help. well I tried visiting website using ip but it does not work for me. I dont think its the issue with DNS resolution, coz when I try to connect to my office and other WiFi I'm able to visit website without any problem. but only when I try to use my house WiFi I face problem. I guess its got some thing to do with my house WiFi's access point configuration, I have a "SIEMENS Gigaset SE568" router/modem. Do you find this valuable?

I have the HTC mogul phone from Sprint and my phone can see my router but when it tries to connect it then says "Not Available". I am so frustrated.

I have to date done the following in attempt to get the Wi-Fi to work with no success:
1) soft reset
2) hard reset
3) erased the memory
4) verified that "Active Profile" is set to 1
5) tested connectivity to multiple wifi routers
6) read the get started manual
7) read the user manual
8) spoke to sprint tech service dept
9) received email from HTC telling me to "FLASH THE ROM"

This is a brand new phone.

Searching the internet I have found thousands of users of HTC which the Wi-Fi doesn't work. And more interesting is that there are no solutions to the Wi-Fi problem.

If any one using any HTC phonea gets the Wi-Fi to work, please, PLEASE report back.

Yes, my phone is working well on wifi.. but:(! ) only on the acces device from my neibour, (an speedtoch) , on my router (an usrobotics) i don't get an connection.

Ofcourse i checked other wireless devices on my router --> they work

Maybe it has something to to wth the kind of speed/connection you make eg wireless g, or b 54 mbps or 11 mbps..???

not sure if the fix i found on this site helps: (sorry in dutch):

but i'm a bit worried to try..

somewone else?

Found this solution and it realy works for me !!! :

Just put the power level to the max (i.e. go Start -> Settings -> Connections -> Wireless LAN -> Power Mode -> and slide all the way LEFT to Best Performance) and all hail ..your problem solved

Tks for your suggestion smilersmiler, I tried your idea and nothing, still cant find a Wi-Fi router, which is all of 3 feet away. I typically keep the 'Best Performance' at max. And it should connect to any Wi-Fi router, I tried it on ~40 to date. It's a brick.... Do you find this valuable?

I have done everything you have done, I have had the phone 7 days now, plus I took the original back wit this problme (dead wifi) and had them exchange it at (alltel). wasnt easy, the local store tech fiddled with it for over an hour. Plus I called HTC's support phone #, he wasnt able to help.

he brought out the phone I have now (the new replacement) we turned it on, I checked that it could connect wifi with motel next door (before he even activated the phone). Well, at that time it worked. So I walked back to the store, he activated the phone, I went back to rerun wifi, and NOTHING. worst part is that I dont get DATA at home (well sub 1x connection tower) and when at home in basement (where I watch TV) not much cell reception there. So I like to use my own internet wifi...

the pisser is, the 6800 (alltel mogul) works flawlwessly.

I think alltel will have to keep this one, and the data plan they sold me.

The problem is WPA-PSK and/or WPA2-PSK (I haven't tried WEP). I can connect to a Cisco/Linksys access point with any power setting when the access point has no security. As soon as I set WPA or WPA2 (with PSK) then the access point's logs show that the HTC HD is completing part of the security protocol and failing with the rest.

So the fault is entirely with the phone's WPA and WPA2 security handling. Unfortunately, I cannot (and would not anyway) remove access point security from our home network. So where is HTC's hotfix for this???

i tried ur solution above regarding increasing the performance bar thingy, but still doesnt work. I'm actually using mac address as my security, but when I turn it off it still wont connect. The account says available although when i try to connect it just hangs on Connecting and then eventually goes back ot 'available'. not sure if i'm doing anything wrong or not.. I remember my router/modem used to get detected in the wifi screen but now it doesnt. (The screen I'm talking about is in the Wireless Lan setting) Do you find this valuable?

I just changed the WPA-PSK encryption on my Linksys Access Point from AES to TKIP and the good old Wireless is ***working*** now on my Touch Pro!!!

FYI, I opened a ticket with HTC who told me their "Senior Engineer" has tested WPA-PSK with AES and confirmed that it "doesn't work". There was no suggestion of a fix either! Unbelievable considering how many APs are configured this way and how many forums are reporting this issue!

I am connected to my Airport Extreme with WPA2-PSK with AES on my Tilt. It has worked first time everytime through all my rom upgrades, custom roms and generally messing with my phone.

Was he saying that it doesn't work on any HTC phone? Only Touch Pros ? Only Lynksys ?
