Is You Tube possible on the tilt?
Oct 9 2008, 11:50 PM EDT | Post edited: Oct 9 2008, 11:50 PM EDT
As the title implies, I've heard stories of people saying they can play You Tube videos on their Tilt (as in, go to youtube.com and click and play). However, I have downloaded several files and I am still unable to do even download a You Tube video, let alone play it. If someone knows exactly how to accomplish this, please post the necessary steps. FYI - My Tilt has Windows Mobile 6.1, the professional edition. Thanks in advance. 2  out of 2 found this valuable. Where can I download the HTC Media Player? I have Windows Media Player that came with the phone, but I find it almost useless and I can't play You Tube or stream any of my favorite Radio Stations. I wonder if the HTC Media Player is different from Windows Media Player and if it will let me stream stations like AOL Radio? Do you find this valuable?

i've tried many different programs for watching videos and Youtube. without a doubt the best solution has been the skyfire mobile browser. if you are not using it, or even worse if you are still using IE you need to visit get.skyfire.com. make sure you go there from your phone using ie and it will recognize the type of phone. THE BROWSER IS THE INTERNET. full flash capabilities. when it comes to movies i put on my phone like .avi files, i use tcpmp. works great, lots of mods and lots of supported file types. From this page, click on the Home Button - Scroll down to "HTC HOW TO" which takes you to Smart phone "How to Section" the 5th item "View YouTube on window Mobile" . Click on it and you will be taken to what you need to include the HTC Streaming Media Player download. Hope this helps. My at&t Tilt uses window mobile 6.0 Do you find this valuable?

Here is a new you tube player that works really well. Try it. It is called YouTubePlayer.

Thanks to those who have responded. To be honest, I've tried all suggestions and here's a quick summary of what happened.
The HTC Media Player kept giving me an error message which I researched and found out there was a common bug in the player and there were several applications to "fix" this bug. While I respect there may have been compatibility issues (6.0 versus 6.1 Windows Mobile), to my surprise, none of these additional applications worked. Either more error messages appeared or the program would freeze my phone.
Skyfire had similar issues. I tried it and was really surprised I had to download a trial version. After download, I opened up the program, and it worked for two days before the program gave up and started crashing. I checked back and was able to get a full, free version (which led me to think I hadn't visited the correct site for the first download). Unfortunately, the program didn't work. Recently, I downloaded a full version again (my thought being a new version is available), and after opening, it remained stuck on the opening page and cycled through a two messages: "Acquiring data connection," and "Check flight mode." After restarts and much patience, I gave up.
I installed Real Player and received error messages. Apparently the player wouldn't connect to the internet even though an icon showed the player was connected. I surfed several forums and found other applications that needed to be downloaded, so I downloaded those, and...(drumroll please)...You guessed right! The program still crashed.
I downloaded TCMP, which can either serve as a stand-alone or support file, and I think this provided the best results - the program asked me to send an error report to the developers, which I did, and still have yet to hear a response.
Other apps that I downloaded but didn't work - Opera, Flash Player/Flash Bundle, DivX, Fire Fox, Macromedia, and a few more.

I have tried almost every app/program you have listed with none of the same results. One has to surmise that it is not all those popular apps ,but your Tilt that is causing the crashes. Have you done a back up of all your important data and then done a hard reset ?

This will clear out any software conflicts in your phone and then you can try again.

Sorry for the delayed response. I followed your suggestion and still nothing worked. I even had to order another phone (my original Tilt broke!) and the same mishaps occurred. I'm beginning to think I am a jinx to technology...lol

The application found at "m.youtube.com/app" comes the closest. I downloaded the app via google a few months ago (in case you didn't know, Google Mobile provides a tool bar that has the same app). I select a video and a message comes up saying "connecting" and then my phone freezes. I cleared out my phone, downloaded the app again, and the same thing happens. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I can connect to You Tube on my Fuze but not my Tilt. I have HTC Streaming Media Player on the Tilt. I can get to the You Tube site, but when I click on a video, it says "Failed to Connect". I will try your youtubeplay.html and see how it works. Thanks!
