Can't set backlight duration on AT&T Tilt
Oct 8 2008, 10:04 PM EDT
No matter what I do, any setting for the backlight duration reverts to turning the backlight off after 10 seconds as soon as the device is shut off. For example, if I go into Settings and change the backlight setting to shut off after 2 minutes, it stays that way until I let it turn off or push the "off" button on the side, then it's right back to 10 seconds. Does anyone know if this is a software problem (as AT&T Support claims) or a problem with my device?

I set mine for 5 minutes (on the battery screen) and it's always stayed at that setting.

Download and install Kaiser Tweaks. It will allow you to adjust the backlight off and many other settings on the Tilt that would normally require an edit to the Registry

My Prophet has the same problem. It is a well known bug, I am told. Download "Battery Status".

The backlight duration problem existed in WM 6.0 and apparently continues in WM 6.1.Kaiser Tweaks was written specifically for the HTC-Kaiser (aka AT&T Tilt or HTC-8925). I have heard of people using it with other HTC phones, but I don't recall which models or how well it worked. I have it on my Tilt and it really helps with things that HTC forgot in their ROM of WM 6.0. I understand that Kaiser Tweaks works with WM 6.1 but I haven't upgraded to 6.1 yet. I'm waiting for them to debug it. Do you find this valuable? |

Hi, I don't know if this helps, but I had the same problem with my Touch. I finally solved it via a Registry adjustment:You'll need one of these (or equivalent) - PHM Registry Editor - Resco Registry (inclus dans Resco Explorer 2003) - … Then go to …\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Backlight\ Modify the QKeyLedTimeout. The value corresponds with the number of seconds of the backlight (eg 30 means 30secs). Then a soft-reset & it works. Other solution: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet|Contro l\ower\Timeouts Then find "ACUserIdle" and put the value to "0". And finish with a soft-reset. Hope this will help ;-) Do you find this valuable? |

I finally solved it via a Registry adjustment:Forgive an old man, but I haven't a clue what all the dos commands shortcuts mean and I sure don't feel comfy messin' with anything in the Registry.... Why can't HTC Techs walk us through this problem, they say the patch they supplied is the ONLY work around and leaves the problem up to the customer.... How crappy is that? "Forgive an old man, but I haven't a clue what all the dos commands shortcuts mean and I sure don't feel comfy messin' with anything in the Registry....HTC doesn't consider this time out problem a bug. It's their way of saving battery power. Most people think it's a pain that HTC doesn't give you an easy way to revise the setting. The easiest way to solve this problem is to download and install Advanced Configuration 3.3. I originally fixed my Tilt using Kaiser Tweaks, but I have now started using AC3.3 which does everything Kaiser Tweaks does and much more - 200 tweaks altogether. I probably use 10 of them, but they are worth downloading the software. I put up a page on this Wiki called "Advanced Configuration" that gives you step by step instructions how to download and install the AC3.3 and Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 3.5 which is necessary to run AC3.3 The best part off this program is that it does the Registry edits for you, so you don't have to risk messing with the Registry. When you get AC3.3 loaded, you tap on the Advanced Config. icon in the program folder, expand "phone" and go to "Fast Sleep during call" and check "disable". 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Tried this and others. Doesn't work. After the tilt is off and back on it reverts to 10 sec.

"Tried this and others. Doesn't work. After the tilt is off and back on it reverts to 10 sec."Have you installed Advanced Config. 3.3? If you have there is a specific setting to enable/disable fast sleep. If you disable it, the 10 second backlight problem is solved. I have this set up on my Tilt and Fuze and both work well. "Thanks for your time but that didn't work for me either."Do you mean you loaded Advanced Config. and set it to disable fast sleep and that didn't work, or do you mean you couldn't get Advanced Config loaded? I presume you are using WM6.1 is that correct? Do you find this valuable? |
