"idunno if you care or not but this is my device, you were just saying ur not familiar with my phone just thought id show you, its the cdma version of the HTC Touch Elf

http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=803&c=htc_touch_p3050_htc_vogue_100

its from telus and at first they disabled the gps but they have since came out with a ROM update that enables it (running NFSFAN 6.5 ROM anyways tho) but i am talking about the stock ROM update for my phone does not have QuickGPS"
Thanks for the info on your phone. I think it's outrageous that a carrier would disable a feature of a phone, but I know they do it. If the original ROM had GPS disabled, that's why they didn't include QuickGPS. When they upgraded the ROM and enabled GPS they should have included QuickGPS since GPS takes many hours to get the first GPS position without it. We spent a lot of time and effort developing QuickGPS, I'm happy to hear you can download it if it was left off of your device.

Try installing this .cab, soft reset and then install QGPS cab again.

Are you getting the cab file downloaded to the device but it won't execute, or is it executing but the GPS still won't work? If it is executing you should be able to go to Start>Programs>Tools and find the QuickGPS icon.

"It installs fine but when you go to install it gives an error"
It may be helpful to know the error message it gives. As denco7 says above, always download the cabfile to the device and then soft reset (to turn off all running programs) and then find the cabfile using File Explorer and tap it to execute it. It's important to stop all apps from running before you install a cab file, since running programs could conflict with what you are trying to load.

Sorry, I was not clear, the installation of the cab file executes fine. It is the program that is failing to run when I click on the icon. I have tried multiple resets at various stages but this does not help.

The error message is above

Thanks

Sorry for being dense - your info was clear. I re-read your posts and saw the error message that you posted. It sounds as though you are getting the software correctly installed, but there is a conflict between your OS and the file itself (or something is missing in the cab file). PM denco7 and ask if those links he posted are for QGPS routines that have been successfully used on other devices. I presume they are - his links have always worked for me.

I can't believe that HTC would put out a Diamond with GPS and no QuickGPS installed. Have you contacted their tech support?

Okay, one more time. I know that this one works. If it doesn't work on your phone then it must be your phone and puts us one step closer to a solution

If this is related to certificates, a friend has given me a copy of his, but I am unsure where to install it to. Is there a way to manually install them?

I downloaded the cab to my Vouge but I get the following message:
"Error: The message to be downloaded excedes the "Receiving size limitation" you specified."
I didn't specify a size limitation. What can I do?

I wouldn't fault HTC for this but rather Telus. My Telus Touch Diamond had another app that was supposedly part of the package - it was even listed in the Telus operators manual for my phone - yet Telus did not supply it nor would they support it. In the case of GPS, they include their own "Telus Navigator" that works quite well but ends up costing another $10/month

You're right about the ROM configuration. HTC builds ROMs per the carrier's specs. We have been hearing lately about Verizon putting out GPS enabled phones that are locked to Verizon's GPS program so you have to use their 3G and pay monthly for the GPS program. AT&T has a navigation program you an subscribe to, but they have their ROMs set up so you can use third party GPS programs and QuickGPS. It's a carrier decision not HTC.
