Word Completion Fix for 6.1 ROM Update
Jul 31 2008, 8:05 PM EDT | Post edited: Jul 31 2008, 8:05 PM EDT
I just spent a little time with HTC customer support and they helped me figure out how to fix the Word Completion function on my Sprint HTC Touch with the new 6.1 ROM upgrade. Mine worked fine in 6.0 but ceased to work with the upgrade. It turns out the problem has to do with the installation of the new Full QWERTY keyboard that came with the ROM upgrade. My Word Completion was not working in Block Recognizer, the original Keyboard or the Letter Recognizer UNTIL I did this simple fix.. Here is how to do it:

* After confirming that you have the box checked for "Suggest words when entering text" in the Word Completion tab found in Settings>Input.
* Open up a new email or text message.
* Go to the bottom of the screen and change your letter input method to Full QWERTY (using the down arrow next to the "pencil", "keyboard" , etc. icon).
* In the bottom left hand corner of this Full QWERTY keyboard, just to the right of CAPS/shift button, is a button to toggle between T9 and ABC.
* Click the button and make sure that T9 appears below ABC. Apparently the opposite appears as a default setting.
* Switch back to Block Recognizer, Keyboard or Letter Recognizer and Word Completion should be active for you!

Thanks for taking the time to figure this out, CSR David at HTC and supervisor! Many kudos!

For HTC Touch Diamond I installed today the new ROM udpate of 31 July - 1.93.456.2. Still doesn't work for Keyboard, or ABC mode for others (only T9 works). Posted email to the Support, no reaction. Any news? Tx, George 0  out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

Sorry my friend...I have no idea. I would suggest calling HTC customer service. I found them to be very helpful with my issue on the Touch.

Thanks for the help...I posted a thread about this on the forums yesterday...so this came with great timing. Now, if only I can figure out how to reduce the font size of the word suggestions to the size they used to be (which was smaller), and it would be perfect! 2  out of 2 found this valuable. I got some "system" solution from another blog: with any regedit for PDA (windows mobile) you can change the value of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9 -> XT9SupportMSSip to 1 (it is normally 0). Then it works (also autocomplete for names from address book when messaging). Well, the font is not so tiny as it used to be (it looks like in T9 mode), but still a progress. George

Many thanks George. It's been driving me mad and your suggestion has worked a treat on my HTV Touch Diamond. Rod

Yet another solution I found at
http://bfg100k.blogspot.com/2008/08/diamond-tip-word-completion-annoyance.html

namely, it will make standard "keyboard" (not HTC SIP) work with STANDARD windows mobile wordcomplete feature, muche nicr to use (with small fonts, and all extra-s)

Change these two registry keys under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\control\layouts\e 0010409
- Value of Ime File from \windows\eT9ime.dll to \windows\compime.dll
- Value of Layout Text from ET9 IME to COMP IME

Of course, make sure that HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Tegic\eT9 -> XT9SupportMSSip is 0 (to the contrary of my previous advise above)

Cheers ,George

When I checked that registry folder, I found XT9SupportMSSip was already set to "1" but it wasn't working for me. I saw another key called "Prediction" that was suspiciously set to "0". I set it to "1" and it started working in my Block Recognizer again. Thanks for setting me on the right track!

For the record: Touch Diamond on Bell Mobility in Canada

Just FYI - all listed above (about lack of "standard" word complete, etc, and regedit fix work fine also with my new HTC Touch HD WM 6.1.

Another Q - does anybody know how to set the touch sceen to be locked while in a call? Especially critical when using bluetooth headphones or car bluetooth kit (like for MBW)?? Now, when talking "through" the car kit, my phone is making strange things in the pocket, as the touch screen touch is :( Tried with setting "notes in call" to off - yet with the bluetooth doesn't lock. Tx, George

Thank you SO much. I just upgraded my Cingular 8125 to an AT&T's HTC Fuze, and I really miss Word Completion.

I tried radiersandbus's suggestion, but that only turned on Word Completion in Full QWERTY mode. ( I usually use Keyboard. ) I'd like to try the registry edit detailed above, but I don't know how to get to to REGEDIT on the phone. Can someone please point my in the right direction?

Thanks!
