Skype over sprint 3g network?
hi,

i'm interested in skyping over the 3g data plan specifically, not just wi-fi. has anyone actually achieved this solution in practice?

i'm interested in SKYPE over the data plan from SPRINT on the HTC TOUCH (SPRINT) or MOGUL (PPC-6800), or if the touch or mogul cannot, any sprint phone.

has anyone had any success with that application over 3g data? if not directly thru skype mobile, then thru one of the 3rd part clients, iskoot, fring, nimbuzz, shape, cellity or any others perhaps? what would you recommend?

best regards and thanx, tonyscarbone@hotmail.com

I do this on a regular basis to call a close friend in Turkey! The EVDO connection provides more than enough bandwidth for it. The only catch is you can't use the phone's built in earpiece, only the speaker phone or wired headset will work, for now.

Note you may have trouble with WinMo 6.1 as the current Skype release is incompatible. (There are compatible betas out there.)

I got a question and any replys will be greatly appreciated. I installed skype today on my 6.1 HTC Touch - the PocketPC version. I thought HTC is smartphone, but version I installed first (SmartPhone version) didn't run - is that what you refer to? What is HTC anyway - PocketPC or Smartphone??? The PocketPC version installed fine - and chatting feature works fine, but when I try voice calls - nobody can hear me and I can't hear the other side. Would you be so kind to explain what am I doing wrong?

Thanks a lot!

you're not doing anything wrong amigo. here's what i've found.
skype does not work on sprint htc touch mp 6900 with win mobile 6.1 pro. however,
skype DOES work on sprint htc touch mp 6900 with win mobile 6.0 pro. and yes, it works over the data plan.
the official current version of skype does NOT work. please find an old version
SkypeForPocketPC-2.2.0.18-Beta.cab and then find a way to reinstall win mobile 6.0 pro.
i tried over a dozen older versions of skype and none of them worked over 6.1.
if anyone has a version of skype PROVEN to work on sprint touch mp 6900 WINDOWS MOBILE 6.1 PRO, LET ME KNOW.
i don't have any leads to find the old windows mobile 6.0 pro, but someone may have a saved copy they would be willing to offer. if anyone has a copy of WINDOWS MOBILE 6.0 PRO they would be willing to email me, please do so at tonyscarbone@hotmail as i could always use a stash. much thanks

The above illustrations seem to be given many Sprint's Data Network users problems. I have the same problem. Some time ago, I downloaded and installed Skype's application onto my HTC Touch mobile phone from Sprint with a subscription to its data plan everything when fine. After this, I called a friend on the network (Voip) and I could not hear him nor could he hear me. I thought it was from the mobile phone's volume and that seemed not to solve the issue. I when back to reinstalled the program and that did not work. Are there any solution to this complication? 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?
