HTC 8125 - Turning SD card into Internal memory...
Jun 3 2008, 5:41 PM EDT
Hey guys,
This is my hope of all hopes. I've been looking for some info for the last 2 months. I've searched many boards, creatyed many threads, even got in "I"arguments with members of these boards over this point!

I even called HTC Tech support and they told me while they do not have an answer for me, maybe their "unofficial" website forum may...

I got an HTC Wizard back in January. Being the curious and gadgetty type, I immediately hopped on the net and upgraded my phone and added all sorts of cool features. I ran across a program, or perhaps it was a registry edit of some kind that allowed my SD card to become the internal memory. So my internal memory displayed 2000MB of free storage versus the usual 50MB.

Throughout the month of january I experimented with the phone, modding it, changing roms / os, doing stuff to it... during that time, I erased that program / registry edit and completely forgot about it.

I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything about that anymore! I'm going crazy! If anyone can help me with this problem, find me that program / registry edit again and I will be forever grateful! More over, since my word is my bond - I am willing to offer 50$ to that person. I will send it by mail or transfer it to you via email or paypal.

Thanks, Phil

Phil:
I just ran into this looking to solve my storage card problem: try MoDaCo at www.modaco.com..and search for an app called WMStorage by Ingvarr...this sounds like what you're looking for.
Best regards,
Lianne Swanson

Thanks Lianne,

But this is not what I'm looking for. WMStorage is readily available on htc phones. It turns your phone (along with your sd card) as an external drive for your computers. What I'm looking for is a program or a registry edit that turns the sd card inside my phone as a hard disk, not just a storage device...Know what I mean?

In any case, thanks for the heads up!

Phil

Not happening. The basic structure of the rom does not support virtual memory. There is ReadyBoost written into Vista that allows flash drives to be used as additional ram, but not the roms which operate WM 5 , 6 or even upcoming 7. Registry hacks or not. There are plenty of ram management tools and memory re-allocation tweaks, which is probably what you were remembering, but SD card as internal memory? Can't be done. Do you find this valuable?

I'd agree with you if I had only heard about it. But this comes from first hand use!

I remember clearly getting that info off a board or a site... Maybe even off a user in a chat room...Who knows! But know for a fact that when I would go into memory in settings, it would be written under storage / total: 1777mb. Everything's doable by the way. I just have to find out where it is again. But now I'm almost ripping my hair off, since it's been more than 2 months looking!

I'm starting to think there's a Windows / HTC conspiracy! One of the main reasons people buy better and newer pda's is for speed and memory... If the memory problem could be solved, I'm sure people would think twice before "upgrading", know what I mean? ;-)

What you are remembering is a registry edit that allows the internal memory and the storage memoery to be displayed as one "in name only" . I have come across it. But it is in display only. Think about it. A storage card reads and writes so much slower and has a finite read/write limit. First of all your phone would operate way slow. And if your phone stored critical files on a SD card, and the SD card died or was removed think about the havoc it would cause as your rom crashed.

The current roms are ce5 based and do not support virtual memory.
And no, everything is not do-able. Sorry

It's a possiblility...
To be honest, I don't remember exactly. But I don't think it was display only. the memory was there and readily available and easily accessible - just like live ram. It didn't cause any problems for the little time I had it installed. Although popping out the card is pretty bad, especially if the phone was reading off the card at the same time...

But I remember elsewhere another board saying that if you put the whole rom on the card and run it from there, the size of your card is your new "internal memory"... I'm pretty sure that's not what I did, but if it's an alternative... I'd like to know!

Thanks

You can download a rom to your card. Then HardSpl your phone and flash a new rom from your card, but you cannot run your phone from a rom on your card. I know people who flash weekly.

Euuhh,
Ok....?Please rephrase that last part so I could understand it better. Sorry, long day at work and my mind is mush! ;-P

Denco, I appreciate the heads up. But I still think the method is out there. Although it's not a "business" savvy thing to invent or come out with - I now it'sout there.

Hardspl is a program that allows your phone to be downloaded with different roms. The roms being the systems and sub systems that run the hardware on you phone. HTC has a rom that runs the TyTN II and even though it is the same phone, AT$T has a different rom that runs the Tilt. HardSpl allows you to interchange these roms or flash custom roms, to make your phone do custom things.

The different roms can be downloaded to your card and then on to your phone, but the phone cannot run from the rom on the card.

If Windows Mobile does not support VM, and the rom contains Windows Mobile. Virtual Memory is not going to happen ever, ever, ever.
But by all means keep on looking, everyone needs a hobby : )
