HTC PPC6800 from U.S. Cellular

Anyone out there with experience on an HTC PPC6800 from U.S. Cellular? I'm looking for recommendations for GPS nav software. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I have one but have yet to read about anyone upgrading the ROM so that the GPS will work. You can of course use a GPS receiver, but that defeats the purpose of having the chip in the phone in the first place. I have been bugging both my local stores and customer service lines about releasing an upgraded ROM. I'll be patient for a month or two before doing anything drastic. Do you find this valuable?

i just updated my rom, the telenav now works, memory and functionality seems to be better overall, the navigation does work but it seems limited. it took me a few tries to get the rom update to completely install. works great now though

I updated my rom and it was easy and works great! I even was at the Sprint store today asking them a question and they had no clue you could update the rom and get GPS on the mogul. I downloaded the new ROM directly from the HTC site. http://www.htc.com/us/FAQ_Detail.aspx?p_id=75&act=sd

They have very specific instructions on how to do it. Just make sure you backup all of your programs and remember that you'll have to re-setup a lot of your old stuff, but it is definitely worth it. Google maps and Telenav are the only two I've used with it so far but I'm trying to find out if Garmin XT or Tom Tom's software will work with it. I like their interface better than telenav.

I am also looking for GPS software. Go to www.maps.gps-info.com . There is an extensive list of free- and share- ware programs, as well as programs to purchase. Each has a review or at least a comment. I haven't pulled the trigger on any of them yet, I'm still a bit dubious about downloading any third party software and how it may affect performance. Idealy, what I am looking for is a topo program for back country hiking in the CO. Rockies.

Did you use the Sprint rom update? I talked to US Cellular and they are unaware of the rom update. They told me the rom update for WM 6.1 is not available. This all they were familiar with.

RE: HTC PPC6800 from U.S. Cellular / From Altell
May 17 2008, 4:29 PM EDT
Hi, have this phone only from Altell. Has Windows Mobile 6.0. Want to upgrade to 6.1 which depending on which tech you talk to is available for this phone. Only HTC PPC6800 listed on Microsoft Mobile site is the Mogul under Sprint. Can't update the adobe/macromedia flash player until I get it upgraded to Mobile 6.1. They say that version also has the bluetooth headset fix as well as a battery freeze fix. Phone keeps freezing/going black screen and unable to do anything unless you take battery out and restart phone. Any suggestions, comments? thnx

Could any U.S. Cellular customers with the PPC6800 tell me the latest ROM version and date they have? Also, is the Microsoft WM 6.1 available for it? Do you find this valuable?

I installed Windows Live Search on my Sprint Mogul and the GPS mapping, traffic, routing, and step-by-step touch screen route segment with text and map segments is AWESOME - and free. Check it out via the demo at

Question for you: Are you using your phone with Sprint Service or US Cellular service? The link you posted here is for a ROM that goes with a Sprint phone. Also, you mentioned that you went to Sprint for advice. Many of us have the Mogul from US Cellular and there seems to be no ROM update. If anyone else knows a way to update the ROM for the US Cellular Mogul (PPC6800), please help.

You just need to cid unlock your phone . That unlocks it from your provider's rom. Flash HardSpl and then you can flash any rom you want ( for the Titan ). It is rather simple to do.
If you follow every step. It is also very simple to mistake that will "brick " your phone and render it useless. And it will void any warranties by your carrier.

Would the Qwest update work for US Cellular? It looks pretty generic to me, and UT Starcom's website shows the manual under generic carrier with Qwest in the filename... ( http://www.utstar.com/pcd/manuals/PLS6800%20English_Qwest%20Manual.pdf ) Honestly, I'm new to this and I don't have US Cellular, but IV Cellular ( http://www.ivcel.com/ ) Do you find this valuable?

The rom is what runs the hardware on your phone . Once you unlock your phone, you can flash any rom you want. It is the sim card that communicates with your carrier. If I was going to go to all the trouble of flashing a new rom, and voiding your warranty, I would look for a full featured custom rom. Why go for another carrier rom. They tend to be limited. Read:

and follow the links for options and how to's.

US Cellular, CDMA. We are very unfamiliar with SIM cards. And thank you for the link to the XDADeveloperWiki.
