Help with Notifications on Missed Phone Calls
Mar 11 2008, 5:17 PM EDT | Post edited: Mar 11 2008, 5:17 PM EDT
Is it really possible that this expensive "smart" Phone does not have a way to continuously notify you of a missed call? Can anyone help me figure out what I might be overlooking. The phone will continue to beep if I don't "dismiss" an appointment... but it won't alert me audibly to a missed call !!! That means I must be proactive in determining if I missed a call by laying my phone on a desk & waking it up every time after leaving the room. What am I doing wrong? I didn't buy a $500 alarm clock... I bought a phone! Please Help! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Are you kidding? The missed call notification is annoying. :-)

Go to Settings / Sounds & Notifications
On the Sounds tab, ensure that you check the appropriate boxes
On the Notifications tab, select Phone: Missed Call from the Event pull-down menu. Check Play Sound (select the most annoying sound (or upload your own), check display message on screen (if you want), select Flash light for No Limit, vibrate, etc...

There you go... Enjoy your new annoying notifications! :-)

Annoying, yes... but those phone calls put food on my table! :-) I do have the phone programmed that way; however it does not continue to beep after the initial notification. In fact, the "in your face" visual notification goes off the screen right away too. Since I don't keep the phone on my waist, and I can barely see the blinking light, I can go hours before I realize I missed the call. Thanks anyway. Do you find this valuable?

Hmm.... Have you checked the Vibrate box?

The problem you are experiencing may have something to do with not being able to check the Play sound (Repeat) box.

Not sure why the repeat box is grayed out. I will look into this and get back to you by the end of the week.

Okay, I have found a solution for you. It is not as difficult as it might appear if you follow these instructions:

1. Download a register editor. I recommend the following which allows editing of the HTC registry from your Windows desktop: http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
2. Make sure your HTC is sync'd to your desktop and run the registry editor.

[Obligatory warning about editing a Windows mobile registry: Be careful! Editing the wrong places in the registry can seriously mess up Windows mobile - it's always a good idea to make a backup of your phone (I highly recommend Sprite Backup)... anyway, the following modification is tried and tested by me]

3. Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D65F-239C-47A7-9304-0D347F580408}
NOTE: I counted 9 of the above registry keys on my phone, look for the one that has the string value, "Phone: Missed call".

4. Double-click on the value "Options" and change the value data (originally 5 on my phone) to "1073741849". Changing this value enables the "Repeat" option box for play sound.

Hope this helps you make more money! :-)

Thanks so much! this worked!

However it seems like the interval between beeps gets progressively longer to where it seems to just stop completey (i think, i haven't sat and listened for longer than maybe 10 minutes).

Is it possible to have it repeat indefinitely until the user views the notification?

Ok actually, nm, it DID work to get it to repeat BUT there's an issue w/ that.

Yes if you miss a call it will beep every now and then as a reminder, but after you've come back to the phone and viewed the missed call or clicked dismss, it still continues to beep intermittently. Viewing or dismissing the missed call does not turn off the repeating notification. That's a bad thing!

Any ideas how to fix that?

That is weird. I am sure that is not the answer you are looking for though. :-]

Do me a favor please. I am in a process of a major overhaul of my network/computers/everything... so I'm going to be out of commission for about 48 hours. Please reply back in about that time so that I see a reminder. At that time, I will investigate this problem for you and hopefully, find you an answer.

Best regards,
Shawn

Go download SPB Phone Suite. It has an option for Phone Notifications in there. It also has Call Filtering so you can block Private Calls or certain numbers of your choice.

It also adds some better ringer profiles in my opinion.

i'm really hoping to not have to install software to do this, or if so, that it be something w/ a very small footprint, as i'm not really in need of profiling.

I guess I don't understand. A lot of the regular cell phones i had didn't beep if I missed a call either. It would just be an indicator on the screen that I missed a call. How is that any different? Do you find this valuable?

Well, because if there's no audible reminder, it means you'd have to always look at the phone to know that you've missed a call.

W/ my old phones, if i missed a call and didn't realize it, it would beep to essentially say "hey, look at me, you have a missed call, come check it out"... you know, if phones could talk :)

Hi everyone I am new to this forum, but would like to share some info on this notifications problem. I've been a Verizon PDA guy for 4 years now and I've been on the phone for hours for four years with Verizon, UTStarcom, Microsoft for 4 years and now spent 2 hours with HTC techs. No one wants to take the blame for this tab being grayed out, their all blaming each other!!!
It is very important to have this alert if you use this phone for business not calling your customers back right away will piss them off and you'll lose money.
I'm in construction operating Cranes in New York I hardly ever hear the phone ring or feel that vibrate but that distinct beep ALL CELL PHONES MAKE ANY CARRIER!!!!! I and everybody else can hear.

If everybody would call HTC (866) 449-8358 and complain and their Carriers we might get this fixed

Thank You

In any case I would like to put the sub-registry keys out there and see if some wants to play with the values, I have come up dry.

HKCU\\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D660-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}

Default values are-
AvailableOptions: 15
Duration: 0
Options: 13

Hacks changes it to-
AvailableOptions: 15
Duration: 3 some times 0
Options: 1073741835

But as everybody is finding out the Hack does not work.
I put this thread on many forums NO body has been able to figure this out
If you have time play with the numbers maybe you'll be the one to fix this.
