Disabling or changing the PTT button on the tilt
Feb 25 2008, 3:28 AM EST I would like to change the PTT button to voice dial, so far i havent found anyway to do this ive looked at stock options, kaiser tweaks, Advance config tools, H button and none of them offer that. does anyone have a way to change this or a program that will allow me to switch that button. I would like to change the PTT button since i dont use that program, but i would be happy with using a press and hold on the PTT button or the Side OK button. Thanx for the info 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Something like PHM Registry Editor is free. Then you need to do the following: 1. Goto HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys 2. Add a new key and name it 40C6. 3. In that key, create a string and call it Button 6 4. Add another new key and name it 40C7 5. In that key, create a string and call it Button 6 (Press & Hold) 6. Goto HKLM\Services\ 7. Delete the key that's called PTT After doing all this, exit the registry editor and do a soft reset. When your Tilt restarts, you will be able to goto Start\Settings\Buttons and assigne applications to the PTT button. You will also notice that you can assign actually two apps to that button. A single short press will start one app, and a longer press/hold then release, will start the second app. Please let me know if you have any questions. 31 out of 31 found this valuable. Do you? |

That is the first time i ever downloaded anything to a cellphone/pda. Now. . . tried to follow steps 1-7 (so nicely laid out). I got stuck at No.1. how do I "go to HKLM . . . ". How do I do this and where do i do this. Please bear with me. Had the old cingular model pda. never used full potential. just go the tilt. you will clearly help me maximize this thing. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

Mar 2 2008, 9:45 PM EST two things. did the two new keys. Is it a problem if key 7 comes before key 6. I will try to change now. Then, how do you delete the PTT button in HKEY Services? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Disabling or changing the PTT button on the tilt
Mar 3 2008, 10:50 PM EST NICE! The lack of a button to activate the voice tag command was one negative that I had for the TILT. That complaint is history. THANKS. INSTRUCTIONS WERE FLAWLESS. EVEN FOR ME. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Disabling or changing the PTT button on the tilt
Mar 5 2008, 8:48 PM EST Well, perhaps the directions are not totally correct. When you create the new string values, the name of the string needs to be "Name" and the value "Button 6" or "Button 6 (Press & Hold)". If you don't create a key called "Name", it will just use the generic term Button. The directions imply that the name of the new string should be Button 6, which is not correct. RE: Disabling or changing the PTT button on the tilt
Mar 6 2008, 8:09 PM EST "Where do I install the .cab files on the tilt?"Save the .cab files either on a MicroSDHC card or on your Tilt itself. If you save it on the Tilt itself, just remember where you saved it. Then, from the file explorer, go to where you saved the .cab file and tap on it. It will start installing the application from that point. All .cab's for Windows Mobile devices work this way. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: Disabling or changing the PTT button on the tilt
Mar 8 2008, 7:14 PM EST So I've done this and it works. I have one program assigned to button 6 and another assigned to button 6 hold... They even launch! One issue... sometimes the PTTMGR.EXE program is *still* launched asking if I want to register for this service... It pops up on top of the program that was launched as a result of the reassigned buttons... I've even tried to edit the Services area to tell it to use a dummy DLL instead of PTTService.dll... Anybody see this or know how to fix this? I'm glad my buttons work, but having to respond 'no' to this pop-up 50% of the time is still annoying... Thanks! Do you find this valuable? |
