"I just followed Rainman's Thread and succesfully reconfigured the PTT button. Very nice, thanks."
Yeah, it really is an easy fix. Though I cannot take credit for it as someone over at www.xda-developers.com discovered it. I just provide the instructions here as it makes it easier for everyone to get to it.

I wanted to use the "Press & Hold" under 40C7 key for my voice command.
Does not seem to be working. I was trying, without success, to access the 40C7 key to make
sure that I entered the "Press & Hold" language properly. Could not figure out how to open it.
Need some help making this press and hold function work. Thanks.

After making the Key, make a new string and name the string Name and enter Button 6 Hold as the String Value. Save the settings, then do a soft reset.

When using the press and hold, press down for more than 2 seconds then release, The application that you assign to the Hold button should pop up.

Explain a soft reset. Where exactly is the button to push. Don't want to delete anything.
Thanks Rainman.
p.s. voice command is comming along nicely.

One more thing.
I have the 40C7 under the "keys" folder.
pressing and holding the 40C7 key brings up options "delete, rename, export, copy key name, and refresh".
highlighting the 40C7 and then pressing "edit" gives option of "new string value" . . . "new binary value etc. . . ".
When I select New string value" it birngs up "value name: with boxt below that has "new value #2" in it. Then a second box below that with "value data:". The cursor is in that box. Is this where I enter the "Name"? Sorry. Still very green.

I have read this entire post and i am having a problem. I downloaded the PHM editor and can not get it intalled on my Tilt. Tried downloading to the phone and the app will not run, tried performing the install on both a XP and Vista pc and installing vie active sync and the equiv in Vista with no luck. Do i need to download a different version, if so which one and how do i install it on the phone. I can handle the rest from there. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

"still don't get how to create a string"
To enter the string, do the following:

1. Click on one of the Keys that you just newly created (40C6 or 40C7).
2. Tap on edit and pick New String Value
3. Under the Value Name field, type in Name
4. Under the Value Data field, type in Button 6 (this would be entered for Key 40C6).
5. Repeat the steps above for Key 40C7, but under the Value Data Field, type Button 6 Hold.

I tried it on my WM6 8525 and it didn't work. I am experimenting with my spare 8525 to see if I can get this to work.

Try using the file that's for PocketPC 2002/2003 ARM. The file you would download will have a .cab extension on it. Save it to the phone and open it from there. It will then self install.

You would need to get the application seperately. I recommend Microsoft's Voice Command 1.6. It's $40, but well worth it.

"Well, perhaps the directions are not totally correct. When you create the new string values, the name of the string needs to be "Name" and the value "Button 6" or "Button 6 (Press & Hold)". If you don't create a key called "Name", it will just use the generic term Button. The directions imply that the name of the new string should be Button 6, which is not correct.

Bob"
I'm still not clear on the "Naming of the new key I have created. Under 40C6 do I name it what I want to use it for such as Voice Command or do I call it button 6. Do I need the 40C7 to make this work for voice command or is that just to use for another program.

Highlight 40C6 in the registry editor. Then click and edit and tap New String Value. Under Value Name, type Name. Under Value Data, type Button 6. You don't have to have 40C7. All it does is add secondary function capability with the PTT key. So if you did it, you would just press and hold the PTT key and a different app would open up.
