faded white screen
Feb 8 2008, 6:47 PM EST Hi, My tilt phone screen unexpectedly became very white, with the icons almost appearing as negative images. There seem to be a few lines that run across the screen that seem 'burned in'. Any ideas about what I can do? I like the phone, but it's pretty much worthless with the screen the way it is. Thanks Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Feb 9 2008, 8:03 AM EST Sounds like a dead screen basically. I would return go back to AT&T and see if they will send you a replacement phone. If you are out of the warranty period, www.pocketpctechs.com replaces screens at a cost. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Feb 9 2008, 10:21 AM EST Unfortunately, my tilt was a promotional gift from AT&T so I doubt they will honor a warranty. I'm beginning to think that the cause of it was a very small drop, I'm talking about 15 inches from the ground, which caused the screen to change. I've had a worse drop on the phone before. To reiterate for anyone else, it seems like everything that should be blue on the screen has turned white, and what should be white has turned blue or black, rendering the sceen almost entirely white and very difficult to read. Thanks! Do you find this valuable? |

But it still sounds like a physical problem with the screen, and probably needs a screen replacement. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Feb 25 2008, 7:33 PM EST Hey I have had the same problem. The screen constantly fades to white. I am certain it is not a software problem because I have reset the phone numerous times both soft and hard. Since the phone is not under warranty I finally gave in and took it apart. Nothing seemed wrong, but after reassembling the phone did not improve. I have found sources on XDA that suggest it is a connection that came loose, and I believe this. However in my particular case it must be a connection that is not obvious, for I cannot discover the source of the problem even after literally hours of pouring over the circuit boards. My one lead is a bent pin, but I am not hopeful because it appears to only help hold something in place Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Feb 29 2008, 6:30 PM EST Someone on the TyTn II group posted a similar problem. To all those AT&T customers I say a loud WATCH OUT --My eperience (expurgated to avoid character limitation for reply) : no damage by me-white screen with just a little football (American) shaped figure in the bottom right corner-less than 3 months after purchase -signing on as new cutomer with a two (2) year contract----- called AT&T support who said past their 30 day return- maybe under warranty-send it back- would check and send a replacement (refurbished) They sent refurbished replacement --used for a couple of weeks-they -sent me back my phone with a note in box saying my fault-not covered by warranty-and billing me $497. plus other charges- for the refurbished phone they sent me-no cover-no nothing other than the skeleton phone-and when I said I didn't want their refurbished phone only my phone back operating properly-- they refused to take back their own refurbished phone. I have spent hours on the phone with AT&T "support" and get bounced back from support to warranty to support with 3-15 minute on hold wait periods. First time--a "supervisor" finally came on and said they would not make the charge if I agreed to extend my contract with them for 3 months. I refused since I had not damaged my phone and felt this was some form of extortion. When I received my monthly bill with those additional charges, I called back to discover the best they would then do was to offer to reduce the charge to $300.--which in fact in a later "Customer Support" person conversation that "Support" person said they wouldn't even do that. I am now being forced to waste more of my time and I shall file a complaint with the FCC and probably a Consumer protection complaint with my State Attorney General and ultimately probably end up in a lawsuit. And I thought Verizon was bad--- these AT&T people are making Verizon look like Saints! BE CAREFUL HOW YOU PROCEED Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Mar 3 2008, 9:17 PM EST Boy, this scares me. I had the same problem with my phone. Went through all the AT & T people and had my refurbished phone sent to me a few weeks ago. I haven't heard anything back from AT & T yet???? Hopefully all is well, but if anything changes there might be more people looking to join this and make it into a class action lawsuit. RE: faded white screen
Mar 23 2008, 2:22 AM EDT This is a well documented problem with the Kaiser, TyTn, ATT 8525, Tilt, etc. It's a hardware issue with the video cable that connects the bottom half of the phone to the top. Why HTC has not addressed this design flaw after several generatiions of these phones is a mystery. I have a ATT 8525 and it occurs frequently for me. I found a tip on another forum for smacking the phone in a cupped hand while turned off (soft) and it does seem to come back when turning the phone on. I will not be upgrading to the Tilt or in fact ever buy another HTC based phone. Beware! 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: faded white screen
May 12 2008, 8:45 PM EDT Same problem with a 8125 (HTC wizard). I read about putting some foam tape behind the D-pad over at XDA forums, but it didn't help. I'd drop the $40 for a new screen off eBay, but I don't think that will fix it. Has anyone tried a new screen? Also, is there a source for parts that would have the ribbon cables? That seems like the problem. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
May 21 2008, 10:58 PM EDT I have replaced the LCD on one of my 8525's with a new one, and the same white screen showed up, the same happened on my 8125. I do not know what causes it, but I just use the broken phones for parts now. By the way, I buy broken phones for parts, so email me at xtremecow@yahoo.com if you are interested in selling your phone. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Jun 4 2008, 2:25 PM EDT 2 years from the first postings of this type and no real solution? I have had my 8525 for a little more than a year and this just started happening but with the screen completly white and no function on the front keys. If I turn the screen off (soft power off) slide open the phone (expose the keyboard) then squeeze with my thumb on the 8525 number (bottom right of the screen) and my index finger on the rectangular bump on the back of the screen it works from 1 second - unlimited time with no hint of the white screen coming back on until it does. This tells me that it is a pressure or connection problem but I have not seen a gurantee fix in any forum. Does anybody know of the latest (2008ish) fix for the issue? And is it happening with the Tilt? Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Jun 4 2008, 8:45 PM EDT There is some information it still occurs on the Titt. Google HTC Tilt white screen. Here's a post on the AT&T forums about it: http://forums.wireless.att.com/cng/board/message?board.id=cingular&message.id=85535 The fix? Buy another, non HTC phone. I'm waiting for the next generation iphone at which point I'll ditch this my 8525. It's been nothing but trouble. And the fact the Tilt has the SAME problems is a black eye for HTC. Upper crap. Jun 5 2008, 4:19 PM EDT Hey, I opened this thread. Still not sure what was wrong, but did a free warranty replacement with AT&T that took two days from calling them to receiving the new phone. So far, so good. Do you find this valuable? |

RE: faded white screen
Jun 6 2008, 12:17 PM EDT Well if you are "battocle" then log in as such and repost. Not that I'm trying to spin conspiracies, but this is an HTC sponsored forum and I am sure they and their suppliers (ie: Sprint, AT&T, etc..) would like to avoid negative publicity and would want everyone to think that they support their products and will repair of replace defective units. Maybe that's the case, but if so, lend some credibility to your post showing that you were the original poster. For me, I'll stand by my original declaration that HTC phones are udder crap. Won't get fooled again! Do you find this valuable? |
